I wasn't sure what to expect from this audio and had only decided to give it a go as I rate Nigel Carrington so highly as a narrator. However my fears were allayed very quickly with the gripping and incredibly informative look at some truly remarkable characters! With stories that would be simply unbelievable if they were not true the warriors detailed within this book are worth of the highest praise and respect. Damien Lewis has done an extremely good job at making a subject come to life and bringing back to life individuals who lived and died decades ago. I would recommend this not just to an enthusiast of military and World War two literature but also those who find enjoyment in the pages of fictional work just as James Bond and other such thrillers!

Brief But Exceptional
An exceptionally well written and presented insight into the Third Reich from its very beginnings to its downfall in the rubble of Berlin in 1945. This is an particularly informative look at it subject matter and due to being a “Brief History” succeeds in avoiding getting bogged down in too much detail and statistics.
This audiobook would be ideally for anyone with a passing interest in WW2 or from an education / student point of view and would provide an excellent taster for anyone unsure if they would find the other audiobooks that are available but are a lot longer in length!

A Genre Leading Masterpiece
An outstanding and refreshing look at one of the most famous battles which took place during the Second World War. Whilst this is a subject that has been written about numerous times by authors around the world Max Hastings as succeeded in raising the bar with his efforts.
With a balanced and well researched look at the battle of the bugle the author has be extremely successful in avoiding the pitfalls that many have fallen into of focusing purely on the American forces and their successes in stopping the offensive. By using a more balanced approach to this battle Max Hastings has been able to articulate and explain the battle in such a way that is easy to understand and follow without it become a never ending list of unit names and numbers.
I would recommend this audiobook without hesitate to anyone with an interest in military history, especially those with a passion for learning about World War 2.

An Entertaining & Informative Look
An engaging and extremely interesting look at the American Civil War on the water I found this extremely illuminating as it was a subject I had heard very little about. Indeed before listening to this audiobook my, like I’m sure many peoples, knowledge of civil war naval warfare was the well documented fight between the Confederate and Yankee Ironclads in Hampton Roads.
This book was let down slightly by the focus being mostly aimed at the Yankee side of the story however as the author acknowledge this had occurred more due to the lack of documentation and evidence remaining from the confederate navy rather than any bias on the authors part. Despite this it was an entertaining and informative look at the naval war during the American Civil War and certainly raised my interest levels enough to seek additional information.
A Masterclass in Comedy
Without doubt one of the best comedy television programs ever created this audio has succeeded where many have failing in being translated into an audiobook. Full of wit, charm and nostalgia Volume Two has continued the high standards set by the first volume and will keep you laughing hour after hour!

Hours Of Laughter & Entertainment
A television program converted to an audio is a tricky thing to pull off successfully however with this Dad’s Army program it has been achieved incredibly well! One of the pillars of comedy greatness Dad’s Army has proved time and again to be a hugely entertaining program and this Audio-book is no different. A must have for anyone who loves classic British comedy and is seeking hours of laughter and entertainment!

An Instant Classic!
Having read this book several times over the past few years I had no intention of listening to it on audio despite my love for the book. However a combination of an Audible sale and a £10 voucher made me give it a go and it was a great decision! With fantastic narration and character portrayal combined with an engaging and fast paced plot this audio was finished before I even knew it! I would without hesitation recommend this to anyone looking for an engaging story, especially if you like a good story that includes twists and betrayals, then this is definitely the audiobook for you! It was that good that I instantly brought the next two audio's in the series – despite having read them several times already – before this audio had been completed!
A Bar Raising Instant Classic
From highly acclaimed and respected author in Max Hasting and with narration from one of the best in Nigel Carrington this moving and incredibly informative look at the events leading up to the start of World War One focusing on all nations and regions involved. From the political manoeuvring through the assassination that many be believe consider the spark that lead to war to the bloody combat that followed this is simply a masterpiece of historical writing.
The only negative that could be connected to this outstanding masterpiece is that the book is broken into two volumes resulting in having to purchase two separate audiobooks to secure the complete stroke of genius that is “Catastrophe”.
An Enlightening Overview
Whilst this is not a long audiobook when compared to others available it is none the less an extremely informative and well-presented piece. Covering the Western Front throughout its formation and to the eventual cessation of hostiles the author has done a very impressive job of keeping the human element visible throughout rather than resort to long lists of units and dates which can occur when this subject is discussed.
I would highly recommend this both to anyone who has already listened to or read a lot about the world war one on the western front as you will be surprised at how much new information you will gain from this audio. For anyone looking to start learning about the hell that occurred in France during WW1 this would make an extremely good place to start.
