Summary

Edwin Coker, nicknamed 'Boot', is a case officer at MI6. When a hacker falls into his hands and reveals details of a secret meeting, Boot conceives a plan to strike back - with a bomb that will seriously damage the Russian operation.

Boot turns to Merc, an ex-soldier fighting in Iraq and a gun-for-hire, to deliver the explosives into Russia and bring the hacker back. But things do not go to plan, and his mission becomes near impossible. The scene is set for a classic story of pursuit, evasion and a battle for survival.

Disappointing for a Gerald Seymour book

Think until now I have enjoyed all the Gerald Seymour books I have listen to.

Although most Gerald Seymour books have several threads, that all come together in the end, this didn’t hold my attention after a couple of hours of trying.

The situation was not helped as I didn’t like the narrators performance.

Strong

I really enjoyed this. Story is well developed. Well paced and certainly more intricate than your average audiobook. Requires that attention be duly payed.

Topical

Great story especially after what happened with Russian spies in Salisbury! Well read but too long and all the Wellington stuff a distraction.

As expected with GS

Excellent in its detail, accurate and relevant in today's world and very well narrated.

Seymour is the consummate story teller

Gerald Seymour is one of a small band fantastic story tellers. The quality of his writing ensures that the listener is kept entertained throughout the tale.

One of my favourite authors.

dull

found this book hard to finish long on boring monologue and very short on story or action. the charactors are undeveloped and the descriptive passages poor.

This book is hardwork

If there is a story line to follow then I'm missing the it, after a few hours of trying to get into it I've come to the conclusion that I'm getting bored

Not exactly a page turner!

I like a lot of Gerald Seymour’s work but this was a disappointment. A fairly thin storyline has been spun out far too long with a lot of unnecessary detail which adds nothing. Leighton Pugh does a decent job with the narration but the clipped sentence format used by the author becomes annoying and tedious! The book would have benefitted from some judicious editing perhaps reducing it to half the current length. Sadly this is well below the excellent standard of Seymour’s earlier work!
