Summary

Ex-cop Dennis Milne is intent on revenge. His best friend has been brutally executed, and Milne wants to know who did it - and why. But London is a dangerous place, especially for a man like Milne. Because although his former colleagues don't know he's back in town, it soon becomes clear there are people who do. And that they'll stop at nothing to get him out of the way.

From the beaches of the Philippines to the mean streets of London, a hunt for justice becomes a terrifying battle for survival.

Brilliant thriller!

A really good story, narrated well with believable accents.

The plot is very good. When you think you have the hang of it, another twist will turn your theories upside down.

All of the characters are inter-related by some way and the final plot twist is a cracker.

Completely recommended

Dave king triumphs once again

The narrator Dave King brings this fast paced, clever and very enjoyable book alive. It runs for ten hours and I listened to it in just three sittings, superb.

Unusual

A well-written thriller with a really complex hero - very dark - well-matched by the narrator.

Great twists and turns from start to finish

This was my third audio by kernick and i loved it. He has a great writing style and you feel like you get to know the characters. The lead character is by no means a good person but you cant help wanting things to go his way. Will have you gripped untill the end. Give it a go if you like suspense it won't disappoint.

An unlikely story with too many red herrings

This is one of those books that the author appears to have written the ending and then tried to invent a story to fit it. Discarding many characters along the way, mostly in a particularly gruesome manner, you might as well just give up guessing who/why dunnit and either stop listening or just let the story ramble on. The fact that dead bodies on the streets of London mount up at an alarming rate, do not seem to bother the media or police is one of the details that niggle at you. Also, an experienced police detective willing to go on his own to a remote location to meet with very dodgy character seems to not make a lot of sense and asks for trouble (or an excuse to show how resilient he is..). Still, I laboured on until the end, mainly due to the good narration of Dave John.

Great character great book

I like bed every second of this book. This is only the second murder mystery book I have ever read and I have to say Simon Kernick has it spot on. I am now hooked. Recommended

Well I enjoyed the storey!!!

Looking at the other reviews I think they have missed the point, it’s about a just enjoying the twists and turns, bits of absurdity and unlikely plot, it’s a novel,,,,
