Summary

The true story of 2 year-old Anna, abandoned by her natural parents, left alone in a neglected orphanage.

Elaine and Ian had travelled half way round the world to adopt little Anna. She couldn’t have been more wanted, loved and cherished. So why was she now in foster care and living with me? It didn’t make sense.

Until I learned what had happened...

Dressed only in nappies and ragged T-shirts the children were incarcerated in their cots. Their large eyes stared out blankly from emaciated faces. Some were obviously disabled, others not, but all were badly undernourished. Flies circled around the broken ceiling fans and buzzed against the grids covering the windows. The only toys were a few balls and a handful of building bricks, but no child played with them. The silence was deafening and unnatural. Not one of the thirty or so infants cried, let alone spoke.

Behind every person there is a story

I love how she started with the story of the child, one would had judged Ana much more harshly had one not known her story. I found the book very educational, both regarding adoption and in raising a troubled child.

Another Informative and good telling of Cathy's experience of Foster Caring and the Children She cares for

I particularly like this book because the story starts with the child and her background, Also the story of her Adoptive parents, including issues leading up to and during their wait to become her new parents, before being placed with Foster Carer Cathy and her family. I found it very informative highlighting situations that I knew only a little about.

Anna is one of many children that needed more help….

So many children need help from abroad but Anna was the lucky one that got chosen but her adapted parents were not ready for the difficult challenge ahead. Yet again Cathy & not forgetting her family coped when a very disturbing Anna stayed with them.

A long way from home.

what a sad beginning for Anna, such a heartbreaking story. I really enjoy listening to Cathy's books. Her narrator Denica draws you in brilliantly and changes her voice for everyone involved. now I'm going to listening to the next one, im listening to them in order. 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Adopted & abused child

The thing’s this child went through and the issues she had to deal with were at times exceptionally emotional but the transformation of her and the subsequent visit to her foster carer at the end of the book was extremely uplifting. It definitely took me on a rollercoaster of emotions listening to her story.

Bit disappointed compared with usual standard

While it was important to set the context of why Anastasia came in to care, I felt it was dragged out and overly detailed. In the end I skipped a few chapters to get to where she came into Cathy’s home.

Fantastic!

I’ve listened to many of Cathy Glass’ audio books now and Denica narrates them extremely well - it could even be Cathy herself!!
