Publisher's Summary

Jake Barton is an American engineer, Gareth Swales a stylish Englishman with a nose for a quick deal. Both have always moved from one escapade to another. Now, as Mussolini prepares to annihilate the people of Ethiopia, the two adventurers come up against Vicky Camberwell, a beautiful but fiery reporter bent on espousing their cause. Striking a bargain with a beleaguered Ethiopian prince, the trio dares to run a gauntlet of guns and a batch of run-down armoured cars in a final, desperate gamble for freedom.

Good but brief

Typical Wilber Smith. An excellent and well told story, which has all the elements of a good tale. I wanted more though as its quite short. However it is satisfying.

Cry Wolf has lost it's teeth

The book is brilliant! interesting facts about what took place at this time in history. Charismatic characters who you grow to really like and respect. Funny, sad and inevitable. An excellent listen. The abridged audio version loses almost the whole atmosphere, the futility, the courage and the sacrifice of those involved. You barely get to know the characters and the story is over almost before it's begun. Totally disappointing - don't bother, buy the book. Thank goodness I didn't throw my paper copy away!
