Summary

A brand-new heart-stopping audiobook from Charlie Higson, author of the best-selling Young Bond series, read by Paul Whitehouse - the most exciting thing you'll hear all year.

They'll chase you. They'll rip you open. They'll feed on you....

When the sickness came, every parent, policeman, politician - every adult - fell ill. The lucky ones died. The others are crazed, confused and hungry.

Only children under 14 remain whole, and they're fighting to survive. Now there are rumours of a safe place to hide. And so a gang of children begin their quest across London, where all through the city - down alleyways, in deserted houses, underground - the grown-ups lie in wait. But can they make it there alive?

teen classic

I listened to this book as my son had suggested it was good and gave me another opportunity to connect with him in discussing the book. It is quite a common thing for kids, I suppose boys especially (I do not have girls), to be interested in the idea of zombies at some point. However it is not appropriate to show them most of the horror movies on the subject so this was an interest to me from the start.

I have listened to all the young bonds, by Charlie Higgson, with my son previously so was convinced that it would be well handled for the age group.

My other son is talking about zombies this weekend which made me reconsider this book. First son read it around 14th birthday and the 2nd may get the audio before he is 12, - I might listen to it again first to be sure.

Great read - well handled.

Brilliant story, brilliantly read

What a great story, the view from the kids perspective is so unfiltered, it is as if I remembered thinking of things as a child. Paul Whitehouse made this his own, I only wish he did the rest of the series.

The Enemy

Fantastically written (and narrated) in Chav language, complete with London accents, "the Enemy" boasts action, gore, and overall incredible storyline of adult-zombie-ridden London, with all the kids running free. A totally unpredictable plot with entirely believable characters, I'm really hoping there will be a sequel.

Level of gore may be too much for children & squeamish teens, but awesome for those who thrive on action.

Dark, Thrilling and Exciting

I read The Enemy over 7 years ago, and i loved the book, i recently remembered it and found The Enemy here, apart from the lack of a full cast, Paul Whitehouse is a great narrator and tell the story brilliantly, including the multitude of voices. The story is dark and definitly fills the imagination with vivid images, but it also draws you in, to find out what happens next, Sam (The Giant Slayer) is my Favourite character, a brave young soul who triumphs over hell time and time again, the trauma that kid has gone through an he is still going ^^ amazing, please bring out the rest of the series on audible, it is too good an opportunity to miss

Very authentic and characters were intriguing.

What made the experience of listening to The Enemy the most enjoyable?

Plot was simple but still entertaining and characters involved you and gave rise to wanting to know what happened at each juncture.

What did you like best about this story?

Likability of characters and there are some very funny/odd moments .

Which character – as performed by Paul Whitehouse – was your favourite?

All of the main group had admirable traits and interacted together but not always as you'd expect.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

If you want an easy read about kids resourcefulness , I know the two wouldn't normally go together but it works !!

Very good for teens

If you could sum up The Enemy in three words, what would they be?

Interesting, original, different

What other book might you compare The Enemy to, and why?

The Darren Shan series

Have you listened to any of Paul Whitehouse’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Haven't listen to him before, very good performance

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Listened for about ) hours straight. Very gripping story

Any additional comments?

Very good book. Bought for my teenage brother but I listened to it first. Storytelling adds to the entire experience of this book. Originality of the story was a positive too. Highly recommended for teenagers and fans of Darren Shan and Anthony Horowitz
