Summary
Sixteen years have passed since Grace was locked up, at the age of 16, for the cold-blooded murders of her employer and his housekeeper/lover. Her alleged accomplice in the crimes, James McDermot, paid the extreme sentence of the law and was hanged on November 21, 1843. But some thought Grace was innocent, and her sentence has been commuted to life imprisonment. After a spell in the Lunatic Asylum she now claims to have no memory of the murders, and so Dr Simon Jordan tries to wake the part of Grace's mind which lies dormant. But what will he find?

awesome tale based on a true story.
loved the characters and the story, the only thing that to me is a little unconvincing is the end but overall really loved it. The investigation of the characters is awesome and I love the sarcastic hints.

History, with human life breathed in to it.
Some less than seamless cuts in the editing but this hardly bothered me at all. A brilliantly compelling and well researched story, read with great talent. Shelley Thompson brings all Atwood's richly imagined characters to life expertly.

Very enjoyable
Based on a true story the book is brilliantly brought together using what facts are available and adding personality to make it a fascinating read. It’s an interesting account of life in Canada in the late nineteen hundreds. The only difficulty is that it uses letters and poems throughout to tell the story, which is really nicely done but sometimes it’s difficult to tell where they start as the narration continues at normal pace. In the paper book there would be much more visible cues of this. Overall would definitely recommend

Excellent Story - Highly recommended
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book and it definitely didn't disappoint. A thoroughly captivating story with extremely strong characters. I would highly recommend this book.

superb
I did not want this to finish... Atwood makes you feel as though you are living in the story with first hand narrative mixed with historical accounts, expert descriptive prose and even a folk ballad of the tale. Simply brilliant.
