What would have made Rumi - A Selection Of His Poems better?
this reader does not understand either poetry nor philosophy. Her emphasis is placed as if she is making a poor attempt at Shakespearean Sonnets at some times, and then like a didactic lecture on the nature of ants, and another times like a badly told joke or Aesop fable. In addition it often sounds like it is her first reading of the piece. I am certain she would be a great reader for other books. Especially children's stories. This is deep material, rushed through to a point that the listener cannot experience it, but must fight through the horrid rhythms and shallow interpretations. Very frustrating!, Really, I want my money back. I gave this to my dyslexic son to introduce him to both Audibles and Rumi. Bad choice.
What could Jalaluddin Rumi have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Rumi is perfect
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Shyama Perera?
OK Allan Watts, Andrew Wild, Bill Moyers, Heck... Garrison Keillor. Someone who understands the work and is not reading it for the first time. Someone who's background is other than elementary school teacher.
