Summary
In The Most Beautiful, a title inspired by the hit song Prince wrote about their legendary love story, Mayte Garcia for the first time shares the deeply personal story of their relationship and offers a singular perspective on the music icon and their world together: from their unconventional meeting backstage at a concert (and the long-distance romance that followed) to their fairy-tale wedding (and their groundbreaking artistic partnership) to the devastating losses that ultimately dissolved their romantic relationship for good. Throughout it all they shared a bond more intimate than any other in Prince's life. No one else can tell this story or can provide a deeper, more nuanced portrait of Prince - both the famously private man and the pioneering, beloved artist - than Mayte, his partner during some of the most pivotal personal and professional years of his career. The Most Beautiful is a book that will be returned to for decades, as Prince's music lives on with generations to come.

Beautifully narrated
Beautifully narrated by Mayte Garcia herself. A lot of criticism appeared from many Prince fan's before this book came out. I feel Mayte had every right to tell her story and for me this has been welcome, as a Prince fan myself I feel this book was honest and sincere and maybe just maybe writing this was a form of counselling for her.

Highly recommended
Thanks to Mayte for sharing her story in such a loving and respectful way. I've been incredibly moved and inspired by Prince's music for 35 years. This book has a beautiful balance between honesty and tender remembering of someone who knew the man behind the symbol, so to speak. I went into listening to this with as open mind as possible for someone who loves Prince's music as much, and I'm personally very glad I listened and recommend it highly

Worth the buy.
I kept finding reasons to put my headphones back on and listen to the story. I have always been a Prince fan and Mayte Garcia has given a brief insight of their life in a respectful tone. It can't be easy for a 16 year old to absorb an icon like Prince and their story is of love, loss and life beyond. Well worth a listen.

A window into the wife's world?
Curiosity was the main motivation for me downloading this book, if I'm honest.
Having been a Prince fan since way back when, and having been fortunate enough to see his musical genius in concert, I had heard snippets of info over the years about his private life - but was aware that it was very much that - private! As such I felt I was stepping into a place that was initially quite uncomfortable, particularly because the man was not in a position to respond to the contents of the book.
I was surprised that as I listened, my opinion of Prince changed considerably - and not necessarily for the better.
If you are a die-hard Prince fan, be aware you may find some challenging information to try and get your head around. Of course if you are a die-hard Prince fan then you may already be aware of the information , and so nothing will cause you to question the antics of the purple one!
Whether you think Mayte is riding the gravy train or not by publishing this, I felt that her narration came across as genuine, heartfelt and by virtue of the contents being about Prince, then it goes without saying, intriguing.
I enjoyed hearing about the happier times, and was moved to tears by some of the sad ones she shares with the listener.
The content doesn't detract from the amazing musician that Prince was, but it certainly throws a few question marks over what motivated him and how he treated those closest to him - particularly regarding his emotional impact on an impressionable minor (as Mayte was when they met), and then later his 'conversion' to the Jehovah's Witnesses and the impact that had on his behaviour.
Prince was a master of his craft there is no doubt, but if the author's account is reliable, then this is a bittersweet memoir of how
the beautiful ones do always smash the picture - even if it's their own.

Such an interesting account...
Thank you Mayte for courageously telling your tale and giving us such a deep insight into the life of your husband. I was blown away by this audiobook and couldn’t stop listening. Heartbreaking at times. I will be recommending this to friends of mine who love Prince as much as I do.
