Summary

Settled in Germany in a Stalag-like hut on a desolate building site, a very long way from home, the three 'likely lads' from Newcastle ricochet from one disaster to another, with their four very unlikely companions - a gentle giant from Somerset, an over-sexed Cockney, a bike-riding Brummie and a dodgy Scouser....

An exceptionally talented actor, Christopher Fairbanks brings The Magnificent Seven to life with great warmth and humour.

Condensed and edited but still just brilliant

Absolutely loved this series when it was just a bunch of unknowns in the early 80's and on local regional in this case Central TV. THIS is much condensed version of series 1 but Chris Fairbank who was playing Moxey the Liverpudlian Scouse in the series is unsurpassed at reading and speaking in the Geordie accents, not to mention Barry as the Birmingham Brum, Bomber West Country from Bristol and Wayne's London cockney. Of course it's a given as Moxey his Scouse is spot on.

This series was a smash. It was and still is really entertaining, funny, clever, spot on observation of typical men of the time as well at times quite sad and touching. This is the epitome of typical brickies and building site lads in those days when in the UK you were still allowed to wolf-whistle a girl and having a sense of humour and showing appreciation of such women wasn't viewed as a crime.

For anyone who doesn't know this series it's about a bunch of UK mainly Newcastle building site professional tradesmen and who meet other British tradesmen on the building site they work on and the wooden hut in which they all live on the site when they all go to work in Germany. It is very condensed with many episodes missing so is only a very small sample of their (s)exploits there. I do so hope they'll do all of the series especially Series 2 but all would be great . This series made all of the actors into big stars and rightly so.

One of my absolute favourite purchases from audible. I will be playing this one many times.

Great narration!

As a huge fan of the series for many many years, it was a delight to find this on audible! It’s read beautifully, follows the series very well, all of series 1 & 2 would be amazing but this is the only book available! Can listen to this over & over….& I probably will, fantastic!
