Summary

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh.

After corporate attorney Hannah Barrett tries - and fails - to stop a kidnapping in Vegas, she can’t shake the haunting image of the terrified young girl she couldn’t save. She tells herself that a visit to her hometown in Scarlet Falls could be a welcome distraction. But soon, Hannah realizes the kidnappers have all the info they need to track her every move. And when chilling e-mails about the victim appear in her inbox, it’s frighteningly clear what happened in Vegas has followed her home.

Eight months after a terrible family tragedy, Hannah turns to Detective Brody McNamara once again. Brody is eager to help, though he’s embroiled in the investigation of a brutal murder. But the closer they work together, the stronger their feelings grow...and the more they stand to lose when two seemingly unrelated, but equally deadly, cases collide.

Minutes to Kill is the pulse-racing second novel in bestselling author Melinda Leigh’s Scarlet Falls series.

character voices

initially I found the narrator's attempt at male voices irritating but once I got into the story it didn't seen to matter

Brilliant 2nd Book in Trilogy

I loved this 2nd book of the Scarlet Falls trilogy. Getting to further explore the characters of Hannah and Brodie and learn about their backstories has been brilliant during such a great storyline and with such fab narration! Looking forward to the final instalment with Mack and Stella…..

Cris and Melinda do it again!

Melinda Leigh's Scarlet Falls series just keeps getting better. I love how complex all the characters are that Melinda Leigh creates, In particular Hannah's character was a great strong female lead, and her connection with Brody was not over the top and felt real from the very beginning. The intriguing and difficult storyline of human trafficking was handled well and with compassion. I can't wait to listen to more by this incredible author.

Thrilling

This is book 2 in the Scarlett Falls series. I like Hannah the only girl in the Barrett family the daughter of a high ranking military officer who was sadly seriously injured but nothing held him back. Hannah always tried to get
involved with the military type activities he would set for his boys. He was old school and could not understand women doing anything in the military let alone taking part in his regimented exercises for his boys. Hannah persevered anyway.

It turns out all she learned came in handy in book 1 whilst helping to rescue her niece, nephew and trying to chase the suspect, but this book sees Hannah come into her own. She gets injured trying to rescue a young woman then the young woman is recaptured and Hannah keeps the truth of the circumstances from her elder brother who gave up the military to look after his niece and nephew after their brother and sister in law was killed, this is because her brother and his blended family were off on vacation and Hannah was looking after the house.

The suspect Hannah was involved in tracks her down and things go from bad to worse and Hannah handles him but unbeknown to Hannah this is not the end of the story.

A story line I just could not understand!
All voices rather similar, not for me.

not bad at all

the narrator fitted the story well and apart from a couple of fortuitous escapes, the story was reasonably believable.

Fabulous!

Second in the series and just as good as the first. Could easily be read as a standalone but reading the series in order will add a deeper dimension to the plot. Soooooo good to read about a strong independent h who thinks rationally and calmly in a crisis and can fight her corner (sometimes literally) especially as this book illustrates how a woman can defend herself if she fights using her head as much as her hands. Special mention has to go to one of the side character – a functioning alcoholic. Rather than depicting this character as an unpleasant drunken idiot, as so many writers do, we were shown the causes and reasons behind his constant struggles with alcohol, and how, when sober, he could be a likeable and productive person. Great book, realistic romance, I am looking forward to next in series.

A thoroughly good listen/read

This was a really good story well presented with just one small criticism:

Escape from some of the life threatening tight situations seemed just a little bit easy and comfortable. There was never the underlying thought that things could ever go horribly wrong.

I actually grew to admire the two main characters Hannah and Brodie and the two bad guys were portrayed as totally evil and violent even if some of their actions, thank goodness, weren't described in great detail.
definitely worth listening to for a mixture of criminal detective work, corporate corruption and romance.
