Summary
Random House presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of Sirens by Joseph Knox, read by Lewys Taylor.
It starts with the girl. How it ends is up to DC Aidan Waits.
Isabelle Rossiter has run away again.
When Aidan Waits, a troubled junior detective, is summoned to her father's penthouse home, he finds a manipulative man with powerful friends.
But retracing Isabelle's steps through a dark, nocturnal world, Waits finds something else: an intelligent 17-year-old girl who's scared to death of something. As he investigates her story and the unsolved disappearance of a young woman just like her, he realizes Isabelle was right to run away.
Soon Waits is cut loose by his superiors, stalked by an unseen killer and dangerously attracted to the wrong woman. He's out of his depth and out of time.
How can he save the girl when he can't even save himself?

Manchester at its darkest...
This is very special indeed. Lewys Taylor gives an excellent performance. The book itself is one of the best crime novels I've read in a long time. A shockingly polished debut from a new and distinctive voice in crime fiction. It's exciting to know that Knox and Waits will be around for a long time and even more so that I'm going to take that journey with them. Remarkable

Brilliant
Having read other reviews thought I'd give this a go, thoroughly enjoyed it. The narrator read it just right to give the character the right tone and mind set. Really empathise with the main character and was a little surprised by the end, pleasantly surprised though. Hopefully there will be another with same character.

Decent enough, but drearily read
You do wonder how most of the characters survived to this point without liver damage, but apart from that it's engaging enough. The reading is unnecessarily monotonic, though, and the emphasis is sometimes on the wrong word.

Grim world
This is a well written and well read book. Just unrelentingly grim. Just not my thing. But I did listen right to the end.

Finding secrets can kill your soul
A dark, brooding story with a dark, brooding character that looks for the truth no one wants to find, in a world where good and evil are hard to discern, no heroes but plenty of villains and victims.
A bleak modern detective story told in black and white, that is never boring and full of turns and twists to create a world where corruption is the norm.
Noir of the darkest kind.

Mancunian Noir...
A dark and gripping story in a bleak and gritty Manchester. British noir at its finest, hopefully it's the start of a series for DC Waits.
