Penguin presents the unabridged downloadable, audiobook edition of #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso, read by Sarah Jes Austell. The first thing Sophia Amoruso sold online wasn't fashion. It was a stolen book. At age 17 she was a dumpster-diving, shoplifting anarchist. By 29 she was the founder and CEO of Nasty Gal, a $100 million-plus fashion empire.
Filled with brazen wake-up calls ("You are not a special snowflake"), frank observations ("Failure is your invention"), and behind-the-scenes stories from Nasty Gal's meteoric rise, #Girlboss is more than just Amoruso's story; it is a book for anyone seeking a unique path to success - even when that path is winding as all hell and lined with naysayers.

Rather patronising and SO American
Irritating Montone Narration
I'm sure your a nice person but I couldn't continue listening to the monotone American twang aimed at a 20something audience passed chapter 8 and requested a refund. Sorry. The life/business journey was the draw to this audio, the energy in the narration wasn't there for me. The timeline jumped and other synopsis from people involved with Nasty Girl (name of Girlboss company) were dropped in without a clear flow and I was left thinking "what have I just missed"? I spent time jumping the audio back to relisten and relisten to comprehend, rather than reaffirm, and still not getting it I just gave up and went to the Netflix adaptation which is 100 times better.
That I am that Girlboss just older...much older!! The parallels of my journey to discovering and selling vintage are, I am sure, the standard blue print experience for all Girlbosses around the world who have an "oh my God I've sold it for how much" moment! Who then rush around to find the next big ticket item and have visions of becoming a dominating online seller! Life's obstacles inevitably stop this from happening quickly so this story will resonate with lots of people out their on the 'rag to riches' journey. To those starting up and who haven't already done their own market research, if you can withstand the monotone voice, this audio may well be of great, great benefit to you, just not me.
The main character, as I say, is me, in another form but older, and into house music, rather than heavy metal!
Stopping this audio and going straight to the Netflix adaption, I found myself watching episode after episode without being annoyed and irritated. The story of one persons "ah ha" moment and the struggles that follows to do what they are happy doing, rather than what society thinks they should be doing, makes this a compelling, motivational and inspirational watch, but not listen! Sorry. Hope you continue to be extremely successful with your business.
