Philip F. Nelson hopes to show that Lyndon B. Johnson played a major role in the Kennedy assassination, and unlike the baseless speculation and second-hand hearsay found elsewhere, Nelson grounds his claims with historical and biographical fact in a well-structured narrative that connects LBJ's youthful character flaws to the shady dealings in his early political life, and finally to the mentality that led him to - as Nelson asserts - assassinate JFK. Nelson is assisted in part by the convincing work of Fred Sanders, who is able to convey a believable curiosity and confidence while boldly implicating the 36th president.

Summary

The case against Lyndon B. Johnson and his role in Kennedy's assassination has never been sounder. LBJ aims to prove that Vice President Johnson played an active role in the assassination of President Kennedy and that he began planning his takeover of the U.S. presidency even before being named the vice presidential nominee in 1960.

Lyndon B. Johnson's flawed personality and character traits, formed as a child, grew unchecked for the rest of his life as he suffered severe bouts of manic-depressive illness. He successfully hid this disorder from the public as he bartered, stole, and finessed his way through the corridors of power on Capitol Hill, though it's recorded that some of his aides knew of his struggle with bipolar disorder.

After years of researching Johnson and the JFK assassination, Phillip F. Nelson conclusively shows that LBJ had an active role in JFK's assassination, and he includes newly uncovered photographic evidence proving that Johnson knew when and where Kennedy's assassination would take place. Nelson's careful and meticulous research has led him to uncover secrets from one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in our country's history.

History is slowly giving up its secrets

Would you listen to LBJ: The Mastermind of the JFK Assassination again? Why?

No one believes the Warren report....but getting to the truth about who ultimately had JFK killed has taken 50+ years and the work of hundreds of authors to try to get past the road blocks, lies, deceit and whitewash that was the Warren report and finally get to the truth about what really happened.

Phillip F Nelson pulls together much of this material, augments it with a comprehensive study of Lyndon B. Johnson's life, from childhood all the way to Vice President, then allows the reader to view the unfolding story through a lens which puts Johnson at the center of one the biggest conspiracies in US government history.

While the author asks the reader to take a number of 'leaps of faith' in the absence of hard evidence, the sheer volume of circumstantial evidence makes it easy to accept many of his assertions. Be warned, this is a long book!

Ultimately his arguments are based on a combination of facts and information from the many authors and researchers who have gone before him, which he funnels into his own narrative about LBJ and ultimately distills this mountain of information down to a compelling and plausible case, which at a minimum, exposes Johnson as the sociopathic, manic depressive, unbelievably crooked individual he was, who was absolutely complicit in the murder of JFK.

Am I convinced that LBJ was the mastermind behind JFK's assassination....it's hard to arrive at any other other conclusion based on not just this book, but the many others I have read on the case. There were many high powered military and government personnel who hated JFK, but really only one man who was in a position (and had displayed the behaviors over a lifetime) to bring together the combination of other crooked individuals and organizations needed to plan, execute and cover up the crime of the century. Added to this was the fact that he had J Edgar Hoover in his corner and also the net was closing in on LBJ himself for his years of illegal activities and you create the perfect storm for this individual to carry out his plan to finally realize his ambition....and become the 36th POTUS.

Fascinating

Although I live in the UK I’ve always been interested in American politics and anything JFK related. I’ve never believed the magic bullet theory or that LHO was the crazy lone gunman. This account almost makes me feel sorry for Oswald but he had to be really gullible to get himself into the situation he ended up in. As suggested in the book any doubt about LBJ being involved should surely make the US President vetting far more deep and complex to safeguard against people like LBJ from getting anywhere near the Oval office. We are still a generation that are really interested in the documents that still remain sealed, if there is nothing to ‘cover up’ then release the documents.

The book is very well put together and narrated perfectly and I would recommend it to anyone that has a passing interest in US politics or JFK.

Superb

Thoroughly enjoyed this wonderfully in-depth look at LBJ. Backed up by evidence and supported by facts, it builds an irresistible picture of the man behind the JFK assassination.

A touch repetitive?

Compelling story but would benefit from an editor, much of the narrative is repetitive. Still worth a listen.

Great detail.

The paradox of all revolutions is that it paralyzes the creative Impulse from which it sprang. It's origin a principle, it's end a formula. Such is its fatal cycle.

No mention of Meyer Lansky or Mossad.

I enjoyed the book, there’s a lot of detail about LBJ however it is very long and you might want to reserve “Final Judgement” until you read around a little more.

THE DEFINITIVE BOOK BY FAR

This has to be THE book to read for anyone interested in gaining a wide and fact-based knowledge of the most likely conspirator(s) and the likely chief (LBJ) behind the JFK assassination. It's a long journey (27hrs or so) however it is a gripping listen, I never got bored and everything is laid out clearly and concisely, backed with evidence. There is little conjecture in this book - as there has been with other books linking LBJ to the assassination - as it draws it's unavoidable conclusions. I loved this book!!!
