Summary

It's two decades since Chris Stewart moved to his farm on the wrong side of a river in southern Spain and his daughter Chlöe is preparing to leave for university. We find Chris, a local literary celebrity, using his fame to help his old sheep-shearing partner find work on a raucous road trip; cooking a TV lunch for visiting British chef, Rick Stein; and, most movingly, visiting famine-stricken Niger for Oxfam.

Sublime story telling

This is by far my favourite of the ‘Driving Over Lemons’ series. I really enjoy Chris Stewart’s style of storytelling and his recollection of the characters and events around his beloved family farm, El Valero. I feel he has fine tuned his craft as an author with this final episode of his farming endeavours.

There are some some chapters, in particular ’Dear Leap’, which his memory brings to light some characters and situations from his first job. This reminds me so much of characters I met and worked with in my first job and really made me laugh. The whole book is read at a much more pleasing pace than ‘The Almond Blossom Appreciation Society’ and to me the stories hold more value and are more dramatic or have a great humour.

I’m very grateful that Chris narrates this book, as the stories and experiences are so personal, it would be lost if left for anyone else to share his stories. I just wish the first two book in the series were available on Audible as I’d buy them in a heart beat.

I visited Orgiva in 2019 without ever hearing of Chris or Driving Over Lemons, we even met some friends in a village bar in Los Tablones (mentioned in the book) and it wasn’t until back home in England my aunt mentioned Chris’ books which is how I discovered his work.

I have listened to this book more times than is probably healthy, but every time I think I should be getting bored of it, I’m not and if there was only one audio book I could listen to forever more this would be it. Highly recommended.

As always, a fun to listen to documentary story.

I love Spain, and listening to Chris's palavas over the years I have lived the life that I was destined for but have so far, not made.

Leaves you wanting more!

I bought Driving over Lemons when it first came out and loved it. Having almost forgotten about it in the intervening years I was pleased to see Last Days of the Bus Club included in my membership so downloaded it and was again, absolutely enthralled by the tales helped along by Chris Stewart's excellent narration. Now I'm waiting for Driving over Lemons to be released as an audiobook!

Gently humorous

I read Chris Stewart’s other books (ie in the normal way on paper) so it was great to hear the finale in his actual voice. He has a a lovely gently humorous tone and as ever the stories and characters make the reader/listener splutter with laughter. I really enjoyed this book

A thoroughly enjoyable book.

I really enjoyed listening to Chris and his amazing life living in Spain. He and his wife have found a beautiful part of Spain and I certainly envy them both. I was a little surprised (and slightly disappointed) to find out that this was the last book in a series and I really hope that Chris finds the time to narrate all his books, as I for one would love to listen to them all.
