Summary

Brodmaw Bay seems to be the perfect refuge for James Greer and his family. When his young son is the victim of a brutal mugging, Greer wants to leave London - the sooner the better - for the charming old-fashioned fishing port he has just discovered. But was finding Brodmaw Bay more than a happy accident? What is the connection between the village and his beautiful wife?

When his friendly new neighbours say they'd welcome some new blood - in a village where the same families seem to have lived for generations - are they telling the whole truth? Perhaps the village isn't so much welcoming them as luring them. To something ancient and evil. As it has lured others before...

Am immensely gripping story!!

This truly is a fantastic ghost story of the supernatural. The story has so much depth and interest it keeps you gripped and takes you along in the amazing story. I had read this book when it was released and I just had to relive the story in Audible.

Good

I enjoyed this it went a long at a fair old pace, two points though I thought the characters seemed to be overly perfect ie handsome beautiful rich sucessful etc and I thought the policemans character would have intervened and helped out in the end but he sort of disappeared and then reappeared in the epilogue Personally I much prefered the waiting room written by this author but this was still a good listen

Chilling and excellently narrated

I loved this chilling tale of a family who move to the Cornish coast for a simpler life, but all is not as it seems in the picturesque village of Broadmaw Bay! If you like the film, The Wicker Man, then you will like this too! David Rintoul does an excellent job of the narration (as he does on all of his audio books) and I really enjoyed it!

Exciting experience

What made the experience of listening to Brodmaw Bay the most enjoyable?

The story is gripping from the start and keeps you wondering what will happen next.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Brodmaw Bay?

When they were in the old church.

Which character – as performed by David Rintoul – was your favourite?

I liked Oliva. Even though she is so young she seemed extremely bright. David really brought this across in his voice.

Wicker Man relocated to Cornwall

Throughly enjoyed this audiobook. Part of the way through the book, I told someone how much I was enjoying it and I outlined the main plot points - it sounded over-the-top, melodramatic and corny. However, this is not how I felt when listening. There is a slow build-up of sinister occurances set within a naturalistic setting that explains the family members' moitivations and actions. This audiobook is really good fun, it has a good degree of tension and it kept me guessing (and I was wrong about how I thought the narrative would conclude). The narration is great too.

This is the second FG Cottam audiobook I've heard - I also enjoyed The Waiting room but this one has the edge.

Such a fantastic book spoiled by a poor ending.

What did you like best about Brodmaw Bay? What did you like least?

Loved the characters of the family. Thought the story was really well crafted. Totally spoilt by the ending.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

This was what spoiled it for me. Clearly if that happened the police would have done some investigating! Totally spoilt the book for me but expected it as have listened to other FC Cottam books but won't listen to anymore.

What does David Rintoul bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Fantastic expression, characters voice. Brilliant.

A little cliched

After reading "The Wating Room", one of the creepiest tales I have ever listened to, I was quite eager to read more by this author. I t was an enjoyable read, but the first part of the book was full of Hammer House cliches. I felt that the characters in Brodmaw Bay and the plot were not as intricately drawn as I had expected, so I was a little disappointed. However, this was an interesting distraction, just not creepy enough for me.

Very good

Only 1 error. The Webley. 455 service revolver is a 6 shot pistol, not eight

Hugely Enjoyable and Tense

This is my second Cottam book and it didn't disappoint. Tension builds constantly toward the inevitable climax which unravels at a breakneck pace in the final pages which left my hands white from gripping the steering wheel as I listened while driving. And Rintoul's narration is perfect. Tense, engaging, fun, wonderfully British horror. You could pick holes, but you'd be missing the point.
