Summary

When a young man chooses a forbidden calling, he must prove his worth...or watch his kingdom fall.

Sixteen-year-old Augum Stone is a warlock prodigy suffocating under the weight of expectations. Students idolize him. Nobles plot to exploit him. Commoners think he's a miracle-maker. And with invasion looming, his already war-weakened kingdom expects him to be its champion. But Augum doesn't want to be a pawn in someone else's game. He'll forge his own path: that of the Arcaner - not a warlock or a knight, but a lethal combination of both.

Legend says Arcaners once had the power to summon dragons. If true, it could change everything. Resurrecting the Arcaner path comes with consequences, however. Scandal. Malice. Treachery. And a harrowing test of character. He must survive. He must prove he's worthy of an ancient path. And he must save the kingdom...before it's too late.

good continuation of the story

It got a bit too political and too many details that didn't initially seem to make sense but it helps the overall story line

Really enjoyed it!

Other reviews made Me hesitant about purchasing this book, but I was wrong to be hesitant it's great.
The change in narrator takes a bit of getting used to but overall doesn't impide the enjoyment of the book and he does a very good job of narrating. I felt it was a good continuation to the story line and look forward to downloading the next in line
Very much enjoyed and would highly recommend!

This was a plus catalogue special

Ended up being a surprisingly enjoyable read. Fifteen word minimum. This is exactly fifteen words.

Exciting

Loved the book. It was exciting and intriguing, but I missed Stefan Rudnicki as the narrator since his voice had a more kick that left goosebumps.

A series of unfortunate events

The main character is supposed to be a war hero but in truth rarely acts with enough back bone to be consider one. in fact he is supposed to be some big shot but let's every one walk all over him. Neither is this a trait that's supposed to be worked out over a character ark as there really isn't any.

As an example a cult leader in his province has a women whipped and is planing to hang another for practiseing Arcanari not only does he not do anything but allows the cult leader to openly challenge him in front of a crowd bu calling him a devil worshipper.

He also allows a headmaster of a school to whip him. He allows a tabloid to publish a article on him that actively gets people to try and assassinate him. This all happens the day after every one in his country trys to crown him king as in he has the influence and power that they consider just giving him the country but the day after he is a scared school boy who every one bullies for... saving them from a evil necromancer.

yeah the author needs to work on his story instead of just having a series of unfortunate events happen that don't even make sense with what the author wrote less than a couple chapters ago. Also I really dislike push over charectors. I read to escape from reality not become even more depressed.

I felt stressed throughout

Yikes, this is a dark book. Things just keep going wrong for the trio. I felt compelled to get through this book quickly as I needed to know things would get resolved. What a stressful read/ listen.
As a positive, I loved the narrator and how the author has continued to build such an interesting world.
