I've read many books on time management, goal setting and self-discipline. The onus of these books is often 'just take action and do it!' And when you don't live up to these standards, you feel deflated and think that it was your inability to apply this new habit/system. But perhaps that system wasn't for you personally? This book applies a mindfulness approach to self-discipline, which I felt was refreshing. The biggest take away I got was that we should be kinder to ourselves. And no amount of punishment will make us more disciplined.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would because for once i got a book which was actually realistic and full of proper good information and not just the usual nonsense repeated over and over.

I have had major problems with procrastination, disorganization and self discipline in general for quite a long time. I could never apply myself to anything properly. I've dropped out of two night classes, started and dropped several different hobbies and could never seem to stick at anything. I'd read a lot of books on self discipline, but I found them little to no use. The advice seemed to boil down to just suck it up and do it.
This book has been an absolute lifechanger for me and very different to anything I've read in this field before. The author doesn't make any wild promises about changing your life instantly or that some particular secret only her book has will change everything. It emphasises small, incremental change and building good habits. Those habits go on to be the foundation you build real success on. It was very clear and very practical. The difference between this and other books is that the author has obviously worked in this field in a professional capacity. It contains the kind of realistic advice that only comes from years of doing this in real life.
One of my first good habits was making 15 minutes each day to listen to this book. It's very well laid out and doesn't overwhelm at any point. By making small positive changes and building on them, I have seen a tangible difference in my life. I'm not totally there but I've achieved more than I thought possible at the start of this year.
I'd definitely recommend this book for anyone wanting to change and who is realistic about putting the necessary work in.

Where does Self-Discipline rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This year, the best! I feel like i understand (and therefore am able to apply it better) self-discipline so much better. Very easy to understand, flowed well, great value for money.
