Summary

For most people, dreams are a way to escape reality. But for Cat McCormick, they're a way to get closer to the truth. Cat can slip into other people's dreams. After graduating college with a degree in criminal justice but little in the way of real-life experience, Cat moves from the Midwest to Seattle to apprentice with her Granny Grace, who shares the ability. Granny uses dreamslipping as a private investigator, and Cat plans to follow in her footsteps. But forced to take work as a security guard, Cat discovers a mother and daughter on the run. Following the clues, she goes undercover in a Midwestern megachurch, where she finds redemption and goodwill amidst repression, hypocrisy, and murder.

Great Characters - Gripping Story

What did you like most about Cat in the Flock?

I thought this was an unusual spin on the private investigator genre. The idea of dream slipping brought a whole new dimension to the characters and situations.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the wonderfully eccentric Granny Grace. And I liked the way the characters were rounded human beings.

Have you listened to any of Angel Clark’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I haven't heard any of her other performances, but I liked her narration.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending. I cried!!!

Any additional comments?

I thought this was a great audiobook. I notice it's the first in a series. I'll certainly get the next one when it comes out.

A great new type of detective

Would you listen to Cat in the Flock again? Why?

Yes, definitely, and it wont be too long before I do read it again!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cat. She has an ability to jump into the dreams of others. This could be completely disturbing or completely selfish as a skill is concerned but that's not what she takes from it. She has a sensitivity to life and those around her. She is a good person that wants to help others. The author, through Cat, treats the story with respect and humour which engages the reader and entertains throughout. Saying that Granny Grace was also nice.

Which character – as performed by Angel Clark – was your favourite?

I'd still say Cat. For all the same reasons. I loved the narration in general. If the reader isn't good they can spoil the book. Angel Clark does a really good job of drawing you into this generally entertaining and engaging book which has great characters and a brilliant and engaging plot.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I was going to listen for an hour in my first sitting. I think it ended up being just over two hours. I was drawn into the book by the story and the narration. So yes. It is a book that you can sit and listen too and get into all in one go.

Any additional comments?

A brilliant book. Get it!! You will love it from start to finish. Its a new take on the detective genre in a refreshing and entertaining way.
