Summary

Diamond wasn't always a star. Born to penniless parents who longed for a strong, healthy son, she was a dainty, delicate daughter - and a bitter disappointment.

Discovering she has an extraordinary gift for acrobatics, Diamond uses her talent to earn a few pennies, but brings shame on her family. Then a mysterious, cruel-eyed stranger spots her performing, and makes a deal with her father. Diamond is sold for five guineas, and is taken to become an acrobat at Tanglefield's Travelling Circus.

The crowds adore Diamond, but life behind the velvet curtains is far from glamorous. Her wicked master forces Diamond to attempt ever more daring and dangerous tricks, until she is terrified to step into the ring. But there are true friends to be found at the circus, too.

Great story, terrible narration

I've read the paperback version of this book many times and the story is great. However, the voice reading it was terrible. The voices for the different characters were barely different from one another and nowhere in the book does it state that the character 'Beppo' was foreign, however his lines were read in a very badly done Eastern European accent that was barely understandable.

Overall, the story is excellent but I won't be purchasing any more books read by this narrator. Its nothing personal to the narrator, but it was just so difficult to listen to and ruined the story for me.

Awful Narrator

I found it really hard to get through this. Narration was awful! such a shame as I loved the Hetty Feather series with Finty Williams Narration.

The accents and dialects the narrator puts on are so bad and cringey it just makes it Impossible to concentrate on the story.

Diamond

I think that diamond is a great book. I listen to Diamond in bed and it helps me get to sleep because there's always something interesting next and I never get board. My fav part is when Addy is washing diamond with the Rainbow bubbles. My least fav part was when diamond was taken away from her home. Over all I think this is a great book.

Amazing story! Bad narration!

A love this book it gives some background to Hetty’s little friend. I would definitely recommend if you have read the rest of the Hetty Feather series. I did not like the narrator, making Diamond sound like a baby and doing a truly awful performance of Bebo. Though the narration is bad it is still worth reading this wonderful book.
