Summary

In this fifth book in the Magykal series, Septimus ends up on a captivatingly beautiful island, one of seven set in a sparkling sea. He's stranded there with his badly injured dragon, Spit Fyre, along with Jenna and Beetle. There are some strange things about the island, including a Magykal girl named Syrah, a cat-shaped lighthouse that has lost its Light, and an eerie presence that sings to Septimus - can he escape the persistent call? Trouble is also brewing for Lucy and Wolf Boy, who have become entangled with some nefarious sailors at sea, and for Milo Banda, Jenna's father, who is harboring a mysterious treasure chest in his ship's hold. Charismatic storyteller Angie Sage continues Septimus Heap's Magykal journey with more laugh-out-loud adventures, more enchanting charms and spells, and an ever-deepening understanding of the interior life of a young hero.

Children’s fantasy at its best

This children’s fantasy is entertaining and imaginative. Starting with a dragon flight to hunt for lost siblings, Septimus flies back with his sister and best friend but his dragon is injured in a storm and crash land on an island. He goes on to meet and release another apprentice wizard, rescues Milo’s ship and crew from wreckers and saves the castle from a gyn army.

Septimus rules

Now I love the Harry Potter books. Artemis Fowl books. Bloody Jacks books, and The Tar man series, not to mention Val Tyler and her Time Wrecca books, and these set of books are up there, if not ahead of Harry Potter, as far as I'm concerned. These give me everything I could wish for in a fantasy, without giving me names and places which I have no idea how to pronounce. And so many characters, that I lose who is who. The humour is brilliant, and the characters sheer genius. I had read all the books so far and Angie Sage is, as far as I'm concerned, right there with The Lord of the Rings. But even better for me because I don't get lost with who is who and who did what, like I do with the actual Tolkien books.

Brilliant. Highly recommended. A world I would like to live in.

Great books for pre teen readers

Any additional comments?

This series has really captured my son's imagination. We've read some of the books and listened to some on audio. The narration is superb. It's definitely not a Harry Potter rip off just because there are wizards involved - a very different feel. Highly recommended

Brilliant Audiobook; and not just for kids

I read the first book in this series while I was on holiday in France, I was around 13 at the time and I found it great. But even is I've gotten older as the books have been comming out I still find that i enjoy them and Would gladly recomend them for both children and adults alike.

A good listen

Continuing saga for Septimus Heap, with comic moments with a genie, prefect voice from Narrator for this character. Great descriptions of Spit Fyre in flight.

Good listen

Started a little slow but picked up. I like the narrator, voices are good. The stories are always uplifting.
I agree with previous comments, audio is not clear especially when played over the car system.

Very poor audio quality

Have listened to the first 4 books without issue, however this one the audio quality is poor and I'm struggling to listen to it. Very disappointed.

Narration quality is questionable

The narrators voices and his speed is nice but it sounds very muffled wich is not very nice to listen to!
