A mixed bag
I've read, listened to and watched A Christmas Carol a hundred times and in over a dozen different variations, and know its story very well, as I would hope we all do. While I appreciate - to some degree - the need for modernisation so that younger readers, listeners and viewers, might understand the more "old fashioned" phrases Mr Dickens enjoyed employing, I always feel a little sad when classic lines are changed for the sake of a recording or adaptation. Still; I will not begrudge the need for change, provided of course we acknowledge the original work. In regards to this adaptation; I could find little to complain about, albeit my own innate need to read the lines and quote the book along with the performance sometimes had me babbling nonsense as I tried to recite and listen simultaneously. However, I believe that giving a voice to the Ghost of Christmas Future was a mistake. Meaning no ill will towards the performer that provided the voice, but that particular spirit is meant to remain silent and unknowable, an entity we cannot fully understand or comprehend, and giving it a voice humanises it in a way that is not altogether pleasant, and begs the question of why it does not answer Scrooge's questions when he gives voice to his concerns, for if it can speak; it must surely understand speech, and thus understand Scrooge's plight, and is able to give an answer. A silent spirit needs no such explanation and presents a more ethereal visage, so I am I think understandably disappointed with that particular choice. Other than that point though, it is a reasonably good adaptation.

A Christmas treat
What an excellent retelling of this story. Performances were as you would expect from such performers .Although the tale is well known it was a joy to listen to and I would thoroughly recommend it to almost anyone.

Finally I Do Feel The Spirit of Christmas!!!
This year more than most I've found it harder to cut through all the commercialisation of the season and feel the real Christmas spirit. Thankyou Audible for this. A quality cast, high production values done in old-style BBC-like fashion. The acting is excellent, the sound effects perfect and a wonderful traditional tale unfolds . . .
A genuine gift, don't miss out on it!
