Publisher's Summary

Fiery, strong-willed Deb Grantham, who presides over a gaming house with her aunt, is hardly the perfect wife for the young and naive Lord Mablethorpe. His lordship’s family are scandalized that he proposes to marry one of "faro’s daughters", and his cousin - the proud, wealthy Max Ravenscar - decides to take the matter in hand. Ravenscar always gets his way, but as he and Miss Grantham lock horns, they become increasingly drawn to each other.
Amidst all the misunderstandings and entanglements, has Ravenscar finally met his match?

Would you try another book written by Georgette Heyer or narrated by Laura Paton?

I love Georgette Heyer books and and am gradually collecting the audio versions, but I really hate it when they are abridged. This is actually a great story and I was so pleased to see it that I completely missed the Abridged notice (my mistake) so regretfully, it was returned to Audible.
Such a shame ... please do the full version .. and please.... when will you do The Grand Sophy??

Any additional comments?

Don't Abridge Georgette Heyer books - its pointless and ruins the story!

Not a great success

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

I have read the unabridged book and I do not think that it abridges successfully. The plot became very woolly and the Irishman appeared and disappeared in a confusing way.

Has Faro's Daughter put you off other books in this genre?

I always enjoy Georgette Heyer but this is possibly not one of her best.

What didn’t you like about Laura Paton’s performance?

The performance was poor. The women were reasonable but most of the men, including the main hero, were a failure. The partial attempt to make Kennet Irish was cringingly bad - on Dick Van Dyke levels - and she did not even seem to know how to pronounce Papa.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Faro's Daughter?

Too much cut already.

Any additional comments?

Perhaps someone more experienced will read an unabridged version one day.
