Publisher's Summary

I do not pretend, in giving you the history of this royal slave, to entertain my listener with adventures of a feigned hero, whose life and fortunes fancy may manage at the poet's pleasure; nor in relating the truth, design to adorn it with any accidents but such as arrived in earnest to him: and it shall come simply into the world, recommended by its own proper merits and natural intrigues; there being enough of reality to support it, and to render it diverting, without the addition of invention.

Confusing.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The script needed to be formed into a narrative that made sense. Its just a bit confusing. The actor seemed to be struggling to make sense of the script and I wonder if there was no director for the project.

What was most disappointing about Aphra Behn’s story?

It just didn't make sense.

Would you be willing to try another one of Isaiah Lawson Jr’s performances?

I'm not sure. With a better script, yes, because he has a good voice, but he seemed confused as the listener by this script. I have a feeling that nobody directed him.

What character would you cut from Oroonoko?

Its very difficult to work out distinct characters.

Any additional comments?

The language would not be a problem if the entire project had more work.
