Summary

Once, long ago, a robot factory-ship flew too near a star unexpectedly gone nova. After suffering extensive damage, it continued blindly for millennia.
A million years passed.... Then, in the 21st century, a colony ship destined for Mars was surreptitiously rerouted to Titan...and only the leaders of the military industrial complex knew why.
In addition to its flight crew, the interplanetary transport carried parapsycholoy researchers, linguists, psychologists, representatives of industry, an ambassador...and elite military units from several Western nations. Clearly something was up.
But no one was talking!

Great read that has aged well

What did you love best about Code of the Lifemaker?

I really enjoyed pondering with the author about what a sentient alien race of robots might turn out like, left to their own for a very long time, what their society might become, etc. I also enjoyed that the protagonist was quite a grey area person in many respects, but had his own sense of right and wrong that was relatable.

Any additional comments?

I read this book partially as a teenager and always wanted to finish reading it. Was very happy to see an audiobook come out of it, so I finally finished it. I was pleasantly surprised how well it holds up 20+ years later. I am a tech person by trade, and found that most of the tech talk still worked just fine and felt very believable.

A fun and imaginative read!

This author goes into great detail when describing sets and settings. I enjoy every second of this style and genre. :)
