Summary
Stuart MacBride's number one best-selling crime series opens with this award-winning debut.
DS Logan McRae and the police in Aberdeen hunt a child killer who stalks the frozen streets.
Winter in Aberdeen: murder, mayhem and terrible weather...
It's DS Logan McRae's first day back on the job after a year off on the sick, and it couldn't get much worse. Three-year-old David Reid's body is discovered in a ditch: strangled, mutilated and a long time dead. And he's only the first. There's a serial killer stalking the Granite City, and the local media are baying for blood.
Soon the dead are piling up in the morgue almost as fast as the snow on the streets, and Logan knows time is running out. More children are going missing. More are going to die. And if Logan isn't careful, he could end up joining them.

Cold Granite
Overall a well paced crime thriller, with strong characters established. Very dark subject matter though, involving children. If it was not for the frequent injection of police banter and humour which helped to lift the mood from the descriptions of the vile crimes, the book would not have been bearable. But I think the author struck a good balance. Hopefully future books will have less awful crimes.

Very good
Very good start to this Aberdeen detective series. The story was written in 2005 but I babe only discovered out recently.
Good plot lines (even though some of them were quite obvious).
Good pacing made this story very enjoyable.

Brilliant
A book with a great story deserves great narration and readers of this title get rewarded with both.

Very good
Very good story, well written and narrated. Although it's a long book, you don't feel it when listening. Can't wait to read more with Logan/Laz.

Brutal & won’t suit everyone
No spoilers as you are made aware this is about a child killer/killers from the book details but it’s not for the sensitive.
It is hard to listen at times to the descriptions but it is not gratuitous but necessary for the story to be told.
Seems in appropriate to say it is a good read or enjoyable due to the nature of the story however as a literary piece it is both compelling and nail biting!
If you enjoy a true gritty detective story then go for it it won’t disappoint!
