Summary

Coming Home for Christmas is a beautifully observed story about the importance of family, the magic of Christmas, and falling in love one snowflake at a time.

Fans of Trisha Ashley, Susan Wiggs, Carole Matthews and Susan Mallery - and anyone who loves the sound of carols and the twinkling of lights on the Christmas tree - will adore Jenny Hale's feel-good debut.

Christmas is a time for family... isn't it?

Allie Richfield loves Christmas, so when she lands a job as House Manager for the amazing Ashford Estate - which includes organizing the Marley family festivities - she is in her element. With a budget bigger than her life savings and a team of staff, how hard can it be?

As one-by-one she meets the Marleys, she’s about to find out...

Allie’s new boss, Robert, might be gorgeous, but he’s also colder than the snow outside and refuses to come home for Christmas. Robert’s playboy brother, Kip, flirts with her relentlessly; and his sister, Sloane, arrives home with baggage - both the divorce-kind and the Louis Vuitton kind. Their ninety-two year old grandmother, Pippa, spends her day grumbling at them all from her mobility scooter.

With Robert intending to sell Ashford, it’s the Marley’s last chance to create some happy memories in their family home - and Allie is determined to make it happen... even if it takes a little Christmas magic! With the festive spirit in full swing, she might even discover a little happiness of her own...

A Christmas romance

What was one of the most memorable moments of Coming Home for Christmas?

When Robert opened the Christmas present.

Any additional comments?

If you’re searching for a feel-good, romance with a Christmassy feel then look no further. Allie takes a job as a house manager and is set to plan their family Christmas meeting. The only trouble is the family are set against each other by the coming sale of the property. Matters get even more complicated when Allie receives the attention of Kip, the playboy brother of her employer. Allie is stuck between the playful kip and serious, but incredibly sexy Robert, and only the elderly Pippa can help sort the problem. A delightful Christmassy read with a real family feel.

Coming Home for Christmas.A beautiful story

If you could sum up Coming Home for Christmas in three words, what would they be?

Emotional, family love, romantic.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the different personalities of the character in this story and how Ally discovered so much about the people she'd began to work for with an honest heart and was able to try and bridge the gap between them for a last Christmas in their home.

What does Teri Schnaubelt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I think Teri brought the voices out of the character so beautifully that they felt like they came alive in my mind.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did some parts made me feel sad and other laugh and happy. I think this story takes you through lots of emotions throughout the festive season.

Any additional comments?

Coming Home for Christmas is a beautiful story about a family who are very different with each other and their last Christmas in their home. And their is a lot of love for family and a bit of romance too. So will all the family make it to the festivity and be together one last time? Or will differences force them to spend it apart? Absolutely Fine

Probably funnier read as the main character seemed quite witty and the narrator didn't always live up to it.

An absolutely fine Christmas story with no brilliant features but no terrible ones. Oh, except there is a character called Robert Marley and no one ever references that he is Bob Marley. That is truly unforgivable.

Coming home for Christmas

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not as a Christmas read. Although Christmas was in the background it seldom took centre stage.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I liked the ending and all the ends were tied up but I though it was too rushed.

What three words best describe Teri Schnaubelt’s performance?

Can't think of three words but I liked her voice and think she did a good job.

Was Coming Home for Christmas worth the listening time?

For me it wasn't though I didn't hate it. I think it was probably aimed at much younger audience

Any additional comments?

Although I knew it was set in America and the reader is American I didn't anticipate how many everyday words would be different. Normally it wouldn't be such a problem but it meant I had to concentrate more and all I wanted at Christmas was a book I could relax with and this didn't fit the bill.

A few hours of my life I will never get back...

Predictable plot. One dimensional characters and an awkward plodding descriptive style. The voice of the narrator was particularly annoying. I listened to her on 1.5 speed just to try to inject some fun in to the whole experience. Gave up third of the way through and skipped to the last chapter since it felt like I was being given a slow form of a lobotomy.

Narrators accent so very irritating.

What disappointed you about Coming Home for Christmas?

Narrator

Has Coming Home for Christmas put you off other books in this genre?

No

Would you be willing to try another one of Teri Schnaubelt’s performances?

Never.

What character would you cut from Coming Home for Christmas?

Have only listened to about half an hour so cannot give an answer.

Any additional comments?

The write up sounded like my cup of tea but as soon as I started listening I knew I would never to be able to listen to this woman's accent for over 8 hours
