I am loving this story. I'm looking forward to starting book 3. I had No idea I even liked this genre. It has opened my eyes. I strongly recommend. The narrator on audible is excellent too.

Cannot recommend highly enough...

...and that's both the book and the performance. Beautiful, musical, hypnotic, compelling. A wonderful experience.

Interesting world

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd part of this trilogy and look forward to the next one.
I like how the narration works, and the storytelling by Robin Miles was very engaging.

I Can't Even

Seriously, if you are looking for the crack cocaine of speculative sci-fi/fantasy, this is it. The author is the queen of tantalising her listener/reader with titbits of information before jerking away on another tangent, such that it's half an hour later when you realise the Very Important Question hadn't been answered. Devious. I CANNOT wait for book 3.

Excellent

There is not much more I can say about The Obelisk Gate that I have not already said about The Fifth Season.

Worthy of all the awards bestowed upon it.

Broke and remade me

This series is incredible. The depth of humanity to every character gives them a beauty and honesty that I haven’t really seen anywhere. All this on top of a world so exquisitely built that it almost feels realer than real life. I don’t know how to put into words how worth reading this series is. Well deserving of all the praise given to it!

Robin Miles is incredible

The middle section of this book is below the quality of the first, yes, and it suffers pacing issues throughout. But the last third more than makes up for it. It's an emotional gutpunch, with tight plotting and fantastic characters.

And Robin Miles just brings everything to life perfectly. She's one of the first narrators where I've gone to seek out other books she's narrated, just so I can keep listening to her.

Excellent sequel

The second book in the series is, satisfyingly, just as good as the first. This is often not the case in the middle book of a trilogy, but N K Jemisin skilfully carries on the saga whilst also making this book a complete story - with the preparation, of course, for the final instalment.

Great praise, too, for Robin Miles, whose narration continues to be near perfect.
