Summary

Shortlisted for the CWA Dagger in the Library

It is Halloween night, and the local museum in King’s Lynn is preparing for an unusual event - the opening of a coffin containing the bones of a medieval bishop. But when Ruth Galloway arrives to supervise, she finds the museum’s curator lying dead beside the coffin. It is only a matter of time before she and DI Nelson cross paths once more, as he is called in to investigate. Soon the museum’s wealthy owner lies dead in his stables too. These two deaths could be from natural causes but Nelson isn’t convinced. When threatening letters come to light, events take an even more sinister turn. But as Ruth’s friends become involved, where will her loyalties lie? As her convictions are tested, she and Nelson must discover how Aboriginal skulls, drug smuggling and the mystery of The Dreaming may hold the answer to these deaths, and their own survival.

another great story with blots of tests and further development of the wonderful key characters . very well read.

the next chapter in Ruth Galloway's story was excellent and a very good plot.

Disappointing

I found the readers rendition of the characters, very detrimental to the book. The upper class English accent was almost a parody and was difficult to listen to. I would have preferred her to read it in a normal intelligent voice.

Disappointing

The author should weave the research she has done more subtly into the story and the reader’s crude attempt at characterisation was infuriating.

FAR FROM STANDARD

I found this particular Ruth Galloway fell way below par. The story was even more far fetched than ever.

Narration problematic

Poor narration, cartoon upperclass and working class accents spoilt my enjoyment of the story. Hopefully the next in the series will be better. Hard to know if the story is as good as previous books. I thought the narrative in the first two were a lot more sensitive and realistic.
