Three passengers are dead. Fifty-six are injured. The interior cabin virtually destroyed. But the pilot manages to land the plane... At a moment when the issue of safety and death in the skies is paramount in the public mind, a lethal mid-air disaster aboard a commercial twinjet airliner bound from Hong Kong to Denver triggers a pressured and frantic investigation.

Airframe is nonstop Crichton: the extraordinary mixture of super suspense and authentic information on a subject of compelling interest that has been a Crichton hallmark since The Andromeda Strain.

This airframe just isn't airworthy

As a long-time fan of Michael Crichton I was very disappointed with this potboiler which was short on ideas, plot and surprises, and gave the impression that he tossed it off somewhere between sorting his sock drawer and checking his bank account.

A gripping book

A gripping and great book, so go for the unabridged version so you don't miss out on the detail.

Learning from a novel

I love it when a novel teaches me something about the real world. Airframe is certainly in that category. The narrator is also very good.

Good, but not very plausible

I enjoyed the story, and I liked a lot of the technical detail, but much was quite implausible. No test company or pilot would allow an outside reporter on a functional test flight, nor would a test pilot ever intentionally exceed the design limits of an in-service airplane to duplicate an event thought to have occurred in revenue service.

I think this is is certification stuff--if even that. Pretty contrived in that regard.

Still a fun story. Thanks.
