Summary

On the eve of his college graduation, Harry is called home by his stepmother, Alice, to their house on the Maine coast, following the unexpected death of his father. But who really is Alice, his father's much younger second wife?

All the beautiful Lies

Just didn't appeal to me. Found the content a bit repetitive and uninteresting, the plot didn't make me want to listen for longer, but l persevered. The narrator didn't help, l found his readings monotone without alot of interpretation. Maybe his later books are different,as l believe this was his first book. I will try others to be fair as he is my daughter's favourite author. Maybe it is a generation thing!!

Oh! What A Tangled Web We Weave

A well-developed plot and characters that seem real and compelling, but a bit disturbing, as the theme is paedophilia and relationships like Lolita, where love and prohibited erotism are a poison that spreads from one generation to the next.
The writer and writing are not exploitative, but the subject is what it is and feels a bit icky; so be warned.
It also works as a murder mystery that is a bit more of a psychodrama.

Less captivating than other Swanson's books

Most memorable moment is at the end. The narrator is ok, but keeps cutting the phrases rhytmically, which is a little annoying. There is less action than in other Swanson's books.

Very similar to the others

I listened to the audio book of the kind worth killing - which was captivating- however this one has similar characters so I just got bored of the rehash and sent it back ! Once us true genius but to repeat the thread. And characters in a different story is just plain lazy
