Summary

An astonishing discovery is made in the remote African republic of Zangaro, one which could change the course of a nation's history forever. But such a discovery cannot be kept secret for long and Sir James Manson will stop at nothing to protect this find. A ruthless and bloody-minded tycoon, Manson immediately hires an army of mercenaries and with this deadly crew behind him he sets out to topple the government and replace its dictator with a puppet president. But news of the discovery has reached Russia – and suddenly Manson finds he no longer makes the rules in this power game. A game in which win or lose means life or death.

Forsyth at his best!

I have been waiting for this book for years and have not been disappointed.
The Dogs of War is gripping, immensely enjoyable and excellently narrated by David Rintoul. Worth every penny!
Mr Forsyth at his best and I would recommend it to anyone.
Can we have an unabridged recording of the Day of the Jackal please! Pretty please?????

All talk no action.

If your looking for an action book then this is not one. More to do with mission preparation than carrying it out.I felt like I had learn more about accounting and business practices than combat.

Dull and predictable

Weakest of the FF books I have read. I am a fan of FF but this is one to avoid. Too much detail about not much interesting makes it plodding and predictable

Great story

It’s decades old, it even refers to shillings but what a book. FF has always been my favourite author. His attention to detail, ability to dive into explanations and refusal to patronise the reader has always been evident.

I’ve just listened to this again while resorting my boat. I’ve managed to lose 14 hours in blissful third eye Africa and imagined reprisals against the selfish. Superb

But back loaded but good tale

I felt much of the book was just preparing for the last hour which was frustrating, but still a great tale, and a smack of authenticity. Except… I don’t know why he puts £ on things because it dates it terribly and is quite jarring, and it is completely of it’s time in the cringeworthy descriptions of schoolgirl sexuality.
Otherwise, superb yarn

Masterclass | Classic | Superb

This is a literary tour de force. Thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. I couldn't stop listening to it. Well researched, a strong story, brilliantly written. The narration is first rate too.
