Summary
After the screen of a run-down drive-in movie theater collapses and kills four people, the daughter of one of the victims asks private investigator Cal Weaver to look into a recent break-in at her father's house. Cal discovers a hidden basement room where it's clear that salacious activities have taken place - as well as evidence of missing DVDs. But his investigation soon becomes more complicated when he realises the DVDs may contain something even more shocking.
Meanwhile, Detective Barry Duckworth is still trying to solve two murders - one of which is three years old - he believes are connected, since each featured a similar distinctive wound.
As the lies begin to unravel, Cal is headed straight into the heart of a dark secret as his search uncovers more startling truths about Promise Falls. And when yet another murder happens, Cal and Barry are both driven to pursue their investigations, no matter where they lead. Evil deeds long thought buried are about to haunt the residents of this town - as the sins of the past and present collide with terrifying results.

No ending!
Really enjoy Linwood Barkley books... Unfortunately he is dragging this story out too long and not putting an ending in. The long gap between book releases means you've forgotten a lot of the previous story and there was no recap. A novel should have a beginning, middle and end, the promise falls novels unfortunately do not. Still an enjoyable read but wait till there is an ending and read them all together.

Be warned the story ends abruptly
Any additional comments?
You need to listen to the first in the series. We did this and the story merged. The narration was good and there were many twists to the story. Suddenly it ends with obviously a sequel in mind. This is a pity and feel each book should be complete.

Oh my god!!!
I can not believe I have to wait until November for the next book!! Brilliant second book I love all the promise falls characters and quite fancy Cal if that's possible lol!! Can't wait for the next one!! Please hurry!!
The pauses between chapters is quite long I thought on a few occasions it had stopped quite annoying!!

An unsatisfactory sequel to book 1
At the end of Book 1 in this new series listeners are left with several stories hanging in the air. I can see that this encourages people to buy the next book, however some of these unfinished stories are left unresolved at the end of book 2 and left me feeling short-changed by the author. The present book is not as well-crafted as the first and tends to meander about with extra characters, more sex scenes and introduce new stories to the ones already there but that remain unresolved. A major new story is introduced that is abruptly cut off as a cliffhanger that ends the book leaving me feeling annoyed. Book 2 is like the middle section of a longer novel with the last part missing. I presume that book 3 will carry forward the unfinished stories but I don't think I'll bother to get it as I will have forgotten the back stories by the time the book is published.
The narrators are very good.

Great if you have read the first book
I liked it but felt that the way the book was laid out, it felt like a book complied from a serialisation from a magazine. There were a lot of description about events that we, the reader, were previously aware of in the book. As in book one it ends without a proper conclusion, if anything it is there to set up the third book. The performances as always are great. Anyway, what's do I know?

pathetic
this is by quite some distance the worst audiobook I have ever had the misfortune to listen to. the writing is high school level at the best. in 5 or 6 year's with audible I have never written a review, but this has driven me in the hope I can at least spare 1 single person, the tedium of suffering this absolute drivel!
