Finding a great book is good

I enjoyed this book but not sure which category it should be listed in. There was a slight mystery but with no investigation (eg no questioning of suspects) not sure it should be in the mystery/thriller section. Maybe romance? Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the book and with gun, dead bodies, explosions and fires there was plenty of suspense. The thing I liked best was the characters, Shep and Dave in particular and the doorstep grannies. It was an unusual twist for one of the main characters to be blind and added a unique and interesting perspective to the story, there was also another twist which I won't mention as it is a spoiler but that is the reason the book only got a four star and I nearly needed tissues . The main character grew on me as the story developed and she started to fight for what she wanted. I have all ready downloaded the next book.
When Miranda's aunt dies and she moves into her home and job she expected nothing much to change in her life. But for the first time in her life someone notices her and even takes a second look. Well Shep would have if he wasn't blind. Being blind isn't the most interesting thing about Shep, he is a DJ on the local radio station and even has his own show with his guide dog Dave, he jogs every morning much to the delight of the elderly ladies in the neighbourhood, he is rich and his uncle is a senator. He has also made himself a target, someone wants to stop the talk show host from talking. Has Miranda made a mistake by finally getting noticed in the world.
I didn't like the narrator, he spoke to deep and I couldn't always understand what he said, especially when the characters needed accents.

Brilliant!

This is a brilliant story about a girl who hardly anybody sees except for a blind man and his dog. It is entertaining from start to finish with laughter and tears. I finished it in one sitting, just couldn't stop listening. Joshua Bennington did a really good job of the narration and I hope to listen to mre of his narrations along with more of this author too. *****

A Perfect Tonic!

A great tale speckled with humour throughout. The narrator is as smooth and lovely as Chacon’s writing. The words dance in your head and into your heart.
Miranda is a librarian, invisible to most around her, save the ones who matter! We discover Miranda has inherited a house from an aunt in Florida but all is not as it may at first seem. Having spent some time in Florida myself I felt that the author has captured it perfectly. I could feel the heat on the back of my neck and picture Miranda’s tin can of a car perfectly. Her descriptions of the old ladies sitting on their porches each morning were well drawn and entertaining. They were so well-drawn that I found myself imagining sitting alongside them! Miranda is original and funny and the humour comes across well. She has her own mind and is not afraid to use it. The story flows with ease which is a testament to the great writing. Without giving away any spoilers Finding Miranda is ultimately a love story with some thrilling twists, which were original and well thought through. I was rooting for Miranda without realising it, again another sign of a good writer. My only complaint is that the book was not long enough, I would happily have devoured more chapters and could listen to the narrator for days! Miranda is definitely my kind of gal! If you like chick lit with a touch of mystery then this book is for you. With summer almost upon us, I would heartily recommend this book as a great holiday read, you won’t be disappointed!

She knew a scary woman when she saw one.

Had this reader noticed that Finding Miranda was billed as a romance, I almost certainly wouldn't have listened to it - and what a loss that would have been. Yes, it is a love story: the girl no one can see until a gorgeous hunk discovers her hiding behind a castor bean plant, and she, like all the other ladies in Magnolia Street, joins the daily coffee ritual watching him and his giant dog jog past.
It is above all a laugh out loud comedy mixed with mystery, thrills, dastardly deeds and pathos.
Brilliant characterisation, too, especially the dog!

Narrator Joshua Bennington is, quite simply put, superb. And, like the book, extremely quirky, with an unconventional drawling reading, with odd gaps and accents, deep voice and great intonation. It fits the delightfully odd story to perfection. Oh, and special mention must be made of the wonderful doggy 'Groofs'. The addition of an occasional harmonica rift between chapters is the final cherry on the cake.

Ignore the 'romance' label. Weird, wonderful and gloriously funny, this is a book not to be missed.

A fun mystery lovely narration

I really enjoyed this book, a fun mystery about a woman nobody sees and a blind man.
And a dog more intelligent then most of the other characters. Some tragedy much comedy, fine dialogue beautifully performed by an excellent narrator who make the book a pleasure to listen too, I have already got the sequel. Highly recommended
