Action packed but very sad novella

I'm glad that I had read this story before listening to it as the narration would have spoiled it for me. The story, about the early life of Lucas Soul, is so filled with emotion as he not only experiences an extremely traumatic loss, but also discovers the truth of his existence. He has to cope with 'growing up' very quickly, surviving tragedy, fighting for his life and learning to move on. Unfortunately the story is marred by the narrator who races through every sentence, completely ignoring the punctuation in the novella. After downloading the Audible app I relistened to the story on 0.75 speed. It made it easier and more enjoyable to listen to, but it's a shame it hadn't been done so well in the first place as A D Starrling's work deserves so much more.

A fast paced and exciting quick listen

If you could sum up First Death in three words, what would they be?

Fast, exciting, exhilarating

What did you like best about this story?

The way that the action forges ahead all the time.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Not really, the voice artist reads quickly but might be better to slow down a bit as his punctuation is not as accurate as I think it could be.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The first death is not the last.

Any additional comments?

I like the voices that Michael Bower does, but I wish he would read as the book is punctuated as it does mean that sometimes the sentences don't really make sense.
