The third and final part of this action packed, and packed some more, instalment of Cipriano and Garner's Clans of Shadow series, featuring fast talking Frank Butcher, the man with, literally, a heart of gold.
This crazy, irreverent story of defiance in the face and teeth of impossible madness is tremendous fun. Joe has Max. His mother, Gabby, wants him back, so Frank does, too. To find him they will have to take on the universe, God's and all.
Written in the first person from Butcher's point of view, Joe Hempel is Frank, his narration carrying the story onwards, upwards and through the epic battle with disarming humour and occasional un-Frank like modesty. It is such a pleasure to listen to Me.Hempel's reading that the story almost becomes irrelevant. Almost. But this story also grabs the visual cortex of the reader's brain as, "tattered, torn, bleeding - but still standing," the friends fight fiends of inter-dimensional horror at the gates of heaven itself. And, as always, "the clock was ticking."
A stunningly explosive ending to this melding of myth and fantasy. My thanks to the rights holder who freely gifted me my copy of Fists of Iron, via Audiobook Boom. Although the trilogy is here concluded, there is still room in the universe for a further Frank Butcher story to emerge. This reader, for one, would be very glad to see it.
Which scene was your favorite?
This trilogy was a quick and easy read/ listen to. The world and protagonist weren't particularly unique, but it flowed better than most and did some things with the mythology that most urban fantasy stories shy away from. Overall I liked this series.

This was a great Urban Fantasy. Even thought i have not read the first two books, i had no problem following the story. I hope there will be more in this series. The story line was great. Each character was great. Joe Hempell really did a great job narrating. He is one of the best. He always does a great job.
