Enjoyable if at points challenging read

I've enjoyed all other Flashman books I've read so far. This one has proven more challenging due to the subject matter of slavery.

While it is uncomfortable to think of the "hero" as ambivalent towards slavery, this was probably true for many of his contemparies and it's a good thing to be challenged in my views of automatically regarding slavery as morally abhorrent. Having the main character not care either way about it makes you take in the horrors of the subject matter more clearly and I think unfortunately it can be easy to be ignorant to some of the truly abhorrent specifics unless you actively seek it out.

Suspend any snowflake tendencies...

...& strap yourself in for the rude of your life! An unfortunate event sees Harry off across the high seas in a story that opens up the details and horrors of the trans-Atlantic slave trade in a manner only GMF can. The adventure is detailed in such a manner as to make the listening almost unstoppable; and the narration of Colin Mace is once again remarkably adept and entertaining.

Brilliant experience for my first audio book

Really enjoyed this, it's my first audio book as I read the two prior, great for car, plane or any travel. Narrator does a great job of bringing a great story to life.
I would certainly recommend.

Another good addition to the Flashman papers

Again well read by Colin Mace and funny fast paced story. Flashman’s self serving and amoralistic character laid bare and he works as both a slave trader and a Underground Railroad operative while all the while showing his contempt for each

Superb reading of Flashy!

Colin Mace brilliantly captures Flashman's voice and character. His reading is nothing short of superb and he renders the characters and their accents with apparently effortless skill. Mace is as at home with a Scottish accent as a New Orleans or Yorkshire, and he slips admirably between them all. A wonderful and hilarious novel, a tour de force of a performance. A delight from start to finish. Frank Danes

Flashman is a rotter

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you get past Flashman being simply awful, the story is wonderful. The historic detail brings the world to life.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Probably the East Coast of Africa. I'll say no more.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud a couple of times when in the company of others after Flashman did something terrible (again).

The tlaws of a cad whispered by a blaggard!

Cringeworthy stuff still full of the character and romance of the era beautifully narrated by a totally convincing Flashman type character.

Best Flashman plot

This book has the most convoluted and unpredictable of all the Flashman stories, making it one of the best.

He keeps going from the frying pan onto the fire, and he only gets off the hook at the very last moment.

Well worth a read if you're into politically incorrect, but historically relevant, entertainment.

Fantastic book brilliantly read

Another wonderful Flashman story brought to life by Colin Mace. I always learn a lot from GMcDF books and in this case the account of American slavery was uncomfortable listening at times.
