Summary

When Jack Reacher Makes Mistakes, Who Handles The Fall-Out?

FBI Special Agents Kim Otto and Carlos Gaspar’s off-the-books assignment leads them to the surviving members of Jack Reacher’s elite military unit. Five years ago, Reacher sorted and destroyed a team of arms dealers before he moved on. But he made mistakes. Now, his bad luck and trouble legacy plunges Otto and Gaspar into the minefield of a grudge war between Reacher’s fearless old friends and chilling new enemies.

When his enemies take women and children hostage for ransom, Kim’s relentless pursuit leads her deeper into the deadly war Reacher failed to finish. Mercenaries and Kim’s unwavering heart push her through - until she meets the wrong woman with nothing to lose.

Not the best but not the worst

The storyline was good if a bit improbable in places. Much of the explanatory passages rely on us believing that surveillance drones are watching our every move constantly.

The narration was the most difficult part. My daughter asked if it was being read by an AI chatbot. Also, the female narrator seems to think all men speak really S L O W L Y and in really D E E P voices. This irritation interfered with the story characterisations.

Thought it was a reacher book

I was dismayed to discover that in my haste to purchase a Reacher novel I missed that this was not an official Reacher novel.

It was still interesting though the narrator's mechanical voice never got easier on the ears and at times I didn't even think she was human.

What a shame

I love the Jack Reacher series.

I honestly tried my hardest to stick with this book, hoping that the story would be gripping enough to smokescreen the poor audio. I failed.

Minutes would pass where I had not absorbed any of the plot. I was too wrapped up in trying to conclude whether the reader was a person or a computer. I'm certain that there is some software editing to the readers' voice as it is very unnatural.

It sounds silly coming from a man of 36, but I enjoy a reader who can do the voices of the characters. This reader is just a monotone computer throughout. It makes it quite hard to follow which character is talking.

I can't finish this which is very disappointing as there are so many books in the series after this which I want to hear.

I'm going to wait until another version of this is available so that I can continue the series, or possibly search Google Play Books to see if they have a different version of this book.

GET BACK JACK

Truly awful.
I have listened to and enjoyed every Jack Reacher story ever written but this is in a different league.
The story is poorly written but the main fault is that the reader sounds like a ROBOTIC DUCK ! Delivered in a metallic monotone, after 15 mins I couldn't listen to it anymore. You should be ashamed to release this.

I listened to this in one sitting!

The best in the series. Not as pedestrian as the previous novels and novelettes. Very much in the Reacher spirit.

Because of that, I wanted to keep going and not leave the story as currently, the Audible App is not reliable At All! It keeps crashing when you pause it and you have to re-download it from your library, taking up valuable time with the knowledge that none of your bookmarks have been saved.

The vagaries of this current App make listening to a novel far more arduous than comforting. My intention is to struggle through with the final book in this series. If the problem persists then, I'll have to cease my Audible membership and purchase novels via another App.

I know that I won't be a loss for the mighty Amazon, but life is too short to have to put up with shoddy services and I'm paying for these books! I have the right to enjoy the listening experience as well as the actual book & currently I cannot do so!

Audible/Amazon - please sort this out. You're no longer the only providers out there!
