Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Having seen so many negative reviews from other people, I might hesitate! But on the basis of listening to it myself, definitely. I've actually given the print book to a friend. She liked it.
What did you like best about this story?
I could relate to so many of the characters. Either I could see my younger self in them, or I've known people just like them - the failing college student, the well-off boy bumming around collecting "interesting" people, young people being automatically anti-authority, the girl who goes strange. Even the group who climb across roofs were quite believable to me, since... um... let's just say I used to know people who climbed houses that were under construction.
What does Emilia Fox bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
I think she captures the mood of it well.
Any additional comments?
I'm taken aback by how many people disliked this book. It does have some silliness in the plot but I think a lot of books like this do. I think it's well written and enjoyable.

I have bought & enjoyed over 30 audio books and never been unable to finish one before.
By chapter 3 I really didn't care what had happened but persevered thinking that a Barbara Vine book must get better but it didn't. By half way through chapter 4 I gave up; any interest in the why's and wherefores of the story had evaporated and even a dogged resolution not to be beaten by the tediously slow pace, flat delivery and tortuously inserted drip feeds of supposed future interest failed.
