Summary

Sixteen-year-old Elvira's mother is dead. Elvira is sad, of course, but not so sad as her younger sister Spinny. Spinny is afraid their father, Luke, will be heartbroken, but Elvira knows better - after all, Luke has her to take her mother's place. But then Luke brings home a pretty young woman and introduces her as his fiancee, and Elvira decides that she will stop at nothing to stop her father's marriage.

A short novella

An unusually short book for the author and it means there is less complexity and character development. Not a memorable story but well written as usual.

Started well.....

At chapter 3, I stopped because of the narration. Seemed to have lost feeling. storyline ok. Probably won't finish though.

Good.

A short book this time. A precocious teenager telling her story, growing up in her dysfunctional high brow family. I guessed the ending about three quarters through but it didn't spoil it. The narration was very good.

Not my cup of tea

Unaware Anorexic Teenage girl who’s mother dies & is unhealthily obsessed with her father.Tolerates her healthy sister who sees ghosts. When the father meets and wants to marry, considers how she can kill her nemesis. Father commits suicide & at the end I had to listen to it twice as wasn’t sure who died. It was included free in membership or I’d not have listened. Poe inspired but not for me.
