Publisher's Summary

A disturbing psychological crime novel which will appeal to fans of Alex Marwood's Wicked Girls. They told her she killed her son. She served her time. But what if they lied? I have no memory of what happened but I was told I killed my son. And you believe what your loved ones, your doctor and the police tell you, don't you? My name is Emma Cartwright. Three years ago I was Susan Webster, and I murdered my 12-week-old son Dylan. I was sent to Oakdale Psychiatric Institute for my crime, and four weeks ago I was released early on parole with a new identity, address, and a chance to rebuild my tattered life. This morning, I received an envelope addressed to Susan Webster. Inside it was a photograph of a toddler called Dylan. Now I am questioning everything I believe because if I have no memory of the event, how can I truly believe he's dead? If there was the smallest chance your son was alive, what would you do to get him back?

Far fetched

Would you try another book written by Jenny Blackhurst or narrated by Jennifer Ness?

No, I'm afraid not. It just wasn't believable although I bought it because I felt the storyline had great potential. Unfortunately it did not fulfil expectations. The narrator was ok but didn't do men's voices very well. Personally I think narrators should just read the story without attempting all the different voices.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jenny Blackhurst? Why or why not?

No. As already stated I found the story unbelievable and felt no empathy with the characters. This is essential for an enjoyable listen.

What does Jennifer Ness bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Not sure really. She was perfectly adequate in her narration and I always enjoy being "read" to rather than read a book myself. It was just unfortunate she had a rather silly story to narrate.

Was How I Lost You worth the listening time?

Not really. It wasn't bad enough that I gave up on it as can happen occasionally. But I can't honestly recommend it very highly , but if you really had nothing better to do then it passes a few hours.

Any additional comments?

I didn't hate this book. However I like realism and a "sensible" story. But many people may really enjoy this rather sensational tale. It's a question of taste which is always individual.

I really enjoyed this book although it was a bit dark. I liked the narrator too.
