Summary

War rages across Europe. France is under the Nazi thumb. Britain has its back to the wall. In London, Scotland Yard detective Merlin investigates a series of disturbing events - a young girl killed in a botched abortion, a French emigre shot in a seedy Notting Hill flat, a mysterious letter written by a British officer gunned down in Crete. With action spanning Buenos Aires, New York, Cairo and occupied France, Merlin and his team are plunged into a dark world of espionage, murder, love and betrayal.

Critic reviews

"A richly atmospheric, authentic, and suspenseful detective series set during World War II on the UK's home front. Mark Ellis calls to mind Ken Follett, Alan Furst, and P.D. James." (Joseph Finder, New York Times best-selling author of Suspicion and Guilty Minds)

My favorite of the 3 Merlin books

Mark Ellis has done it! Frank Merlin is sure to take his literary place along side the likes of Holmes and Poirot as among the most inspired and beloved of all time. Mr. Ellis' uncanny ability to spin a winding tale while painting finely detailed portrait of WWII London as a backdrop is masterful. Riveting and satisfying. The success of this book confirms that love persists for real literature.
