Summary
Clare Cosi's new friend, millionaire David Mintzer, has an offer no New York barista could turn down: an all-expenses-paid summer away from the sticky city. At his Hamptons mansion, she'll relax, soak up the sun, and, oh yes, train the staff of his new restaurant. So Clare packs up her daughter, her former mother-in-law, and her special recipe for iced coffee for what she hopes will be one de-latte-ful summer...
Soon, Clare tends the coffee bar at her first Hamptons gala. But the festivities come to a bitter end when an employee turns up dead in David's bathroom--a botched attempt on the millionaire's life. Thanks to the Fourth of July fireworks, no one heard any gunshots, and the police are stuck in holiday traffic. Concerned for everyone's safety, Clare begins to investigate. What she finds will keep her up at night--and it's not the java jitters.

Enjoyable
Decent story, decent narration. One big fault was the constant explanation of all things coffee,way too much

Great soul food
Accidentally stumbled upon the series, but it was one of the best accidents. This was my first read and it takes some time to get used to the performer.

A frothy mystery
I enjoyed this mystery but I learnt more about coffee than I have ever known or want to know, it was a little to much. I know the main character is a barista and needs to know her stuff but when she started to give you history on the beans I couldn't help but wonder when it was going to get back to the investigation. I liked the start and end of the story but found the middle a little slow. Having said that I did enjoy the book and have downloaded the next book in the series because I liked the characters. Especially the sassy grandmother and granddaughter, who are two peas in a pod. The mystery was good and kept you guessing over not just who the killer was but also was the right murder victim killed. I loved the twist at the end and never saw that coming. Off to start the next book.
Clare as a successful barista owner is hired to help lend her expertise for a friend David, who is opening up his own restaurant. She gets an all expenses paid trip for the summer to the Hamptons, along with her teenage daughter and ex mother in law. As part of her job she and the rest of the staff need to cater the boss's fourth of July party. Full of celebrities and the rich the party goes off with out a hitch until the fireworks start to fly. Then one of the servers is found death in the up stairs bathroom, Clare spots the similarities between her boss and the young employee straight away and wonders if through the crosshairs whether the right man was killed. David wants to keep everything quiet and refuses to believe he is the target. But being wrong could cost him his life and Clare isn't willing to pay that price. As she investigates she uncovers clues that lead her to think that it was a hired contract killer and she is going to need help if she is going to get to the bottom of what is going on and serve the perfect coffee.
I liked the narrator, she gave each of the characters there own voice making it easy to follow and enjoy.

over detailed to the point of boring
Overloaded with unnecessary details, waffles in places, gets bogged down in over describing. story can get lost amongst the waffling. Coffee history seems to be more important than the murder. struggled to keep interested.

Not for me
I abandoned this book after a few chapters. It began well but then started to feel very silly and artificial. I'm probably not in the right demographic for this novel, young people might like it. Personally, I didn't like the atmosphere of the book, it certainly wasn't cosy and didn't appeal to me at all. This is the first 'coffee shop' novel that I have tried, and I won't bother with the other books in this series.
