That the author could tell a wholesome story without blasphemy or crude language! what a great listen!

Humour, crime and life. I can not wait to listen to the books of this author.

Average story

The reading seemed rather poor to me., Words like 'soddering iron' and very quick from one chapter to the next. The story was ok but not a real page turner. Not one that i would recommend.

Better read the book!

I have read all the books in this series, which, although never going to win a booker prize, kept me entertained and interested enough to find out what would happen to the main character at the end of the series. I got the audio book because it was free and some time since I’d read the books so thought I’d give it a whirl. These books have been very let down by extremely poor narration, I can’t believe how many mispronunciations of simple every day words there were, and how such mistakes could be made by someone who makes a living by narrating audio books. Someone else mentioned the ‘soddering iron’, which was hilarious, but many other words mispronounced or the emphasis placed on the wrong syllables, which is vastly irritating. Does anyone actually listen to these books before they are released? I’m glad I didn’t pay for it.

Narration so poor

The storyline was perfectly fine but this was ruined by the narrator who has a particularly loose command of the English language. Her mispronunciations were really distracting. It was a real pity.
Why did nobody check?

Slow Moving Excitement on Oxford Canal

Moving from the deprivation and sometime squalor of Blackbird leys to the rustic ldyll of the Canal.

Very enjoyable

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. The story was good. Characters were developed. The narration was not lively nor dramatic, but it conveyed feeling and I found the style enjoyable. As others have remarked there were several instances of most peculiar pronunciation. I would have preferred them not to have been there but they did not spoil the reading for me. I look forward to the next in this series.

Hilarious mis-pronunciation

Good start to a series. Hopefully the narrator learns how to read and pronounce words. All in all at least it was amusing. Looking forward to the next episode.

So so story. Oddly pronounced words.

Rather mundane story. Didn’t feel engaged with any of the characters. The narrator mispronounced several words ( eg soddering iron ) which further distracted.
