Summary

A relic, stolen from the heart of an ancient city.
An echo of nationalist violence not seen since the dark days of the Second World War.
** An Amazon Bestselling Book in International Mystery and Crime and Conspiracy Thriller from New York Times and USA Today Best-selling Author J.F.Penn **
Budapest, Hungary. When a priest is murdered at the Basilica of St Stephen and the Holy Right relic is stolen, the ultra-nationalist Eröszak party calls for retribution and anti-Semitic violence erupts in the city.
Dr Morgan Sierra, psychologist and ARKANE agent, finds herself trapped inside the synagogue with Zoltan Fischer, a Hungarian Jewish security advisor. As the terrorism escalates, Morgan and Zoltan must race against time to find the Holy Right and expose the conspiracy, before blood is spilled again on the streets of Budapest.
One Day in Budapest is a chilling view of a possible future as Eastern Europe embraces right-wing nationalism. A conspiracy thriller, where religion and politics intersect.
If you love an action-packed, fast-paced thriller, download a sample or buy One Day in Budapest now.
One Day In Budapest features Dr Morgan Sierra from the ARKANE thrillers, but is a stand-alone novella and can be listened to separately from the ARKANE series.

A gritty action packed thriller

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, this story is a great break from the norm in the series and well worth a listen.

What other book might you compare One Day in Budapest to, and why?

any of the Arkane series by J.F Penn all of them are gripping and this one is especially packed with action.

What does Veronica Giguere bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Veronica immerses the listener and her great vocal abilities shine through.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

it kept me on edge the whole way through due to its high action level.

Any additional comments?

A great read and interesting diversion from the other books in the Arkane series. Crammed with action, historical interest and the unusual setting of Budapest.

Gripping and well researched novella

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this novella to thriller and history buffs as well as anyone who likes their stories a bit dark because it is a well researched, creates a vivid and chilling picture of Budapest's past, present and a hypothetical future where the horrors of the past could easily be enacted again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Morgan Sierra is a kick-ass heroine with the right combination of superior intellect and combat skills.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The scene with the shootings of innocent people at the shoes on the Danube was evocative and poignant. The horrors suffered in WW2 could so easily be suffered again.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I had already read the novella on Kindle but I also enjoy listening to J.F.Penn's books too. There is a different feel to it on audio - it becomes even more chilling. The length of the novella is a great for listening to during commutes. Bring on the traffic jams...

Any additional comments?

Zoltan makes a good hero. There is definitely sizzle between him and Morgan.

No character depth, just speed-read Nazi warnings

Trying hard to show that Nazis are alive and well in the very countries that they brutalized decades ago, the terrible narrator literally speed-reads this. I thought that my iPhone must have accidentally switched to double speed; but no, just awful narration.

The premise is valid, the scare warranted, but the book is not literature. From this sample, I would never consider this author or narrator again, and it was a waste of even the token amount spent on this book. It is not a "story", it is a warning.

Skip One Day in Budapest

What would have made One Day in Budapest better?

The narrator is so difficult to listen to as her inflections and reading make it sound as if English is her 2nd or 3rd language. The sentence end like questions, the voice rising and falling at inappropriate times that it is painful to actually try to get through this audiobook. I lasted 25 minutes and couldn't continue. Perhaps I will buy the book. I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks and most of the narrators are good or better. This one is difficult to categorize as even poor!

How could the performance have been better?

Get someone else to read the book.
