Would you listen to Raffles: Series 1 & 2 again? Why?
Raffles is in the Top Ten of my Collection of 902 Audible.uk Books which I listen to over & over with pure joy. So much happens with laughs galore just waiting to be discovered. Raffles is a tough cheeky class act to follow which is exactly what poor under dog Bunny has to do. Written by Arthur Conan Doyal's brother-inlaw, each story does justice to the family credentials. Whit, love, murder, blackmail, it is all here in a cocktail of crystal wrapped fun.
What did you like best about this story?
To chose one as an example would not do justice to the series. Each story well heeled, stands up on their own merit from stealing from glamorous and charming Counts & Countess's to setting up a rogue for the hang mans rope; all done in the best possible taste :) All have a bundle of naughty school boy theiving (well the toffs can afford it) subtle laughs to look out for, a listening pleasure. You never know where Raffles and Bunny will lead you to next: Boats, Trains, Mansions: The Cricket Field ...
What does Michael Cochrane and Jeremy Clyde bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Because Jeremy Clyde is a British born Aristocrat, he has the first class inside knowledge of how his own class and circles behave, right down to the wit and mannerisms of Aristo's. Is Jeremy being himself in this work, I think so; he portrays the Raffles character with aplomb a naturalness all of his own that adds to the fullness of such a charming whitty character. Big rounded and bold with the slivery sneakiness of a cute fox one wishes to feed and encourage to sniff around the garbage.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Oh definatley this audiobook is one that our family love to sit and listen to in one long sitting; but you would be better to listen to one or two of the plays at one sitting so you can spread these treasures out & tuck into the stories with a fresh mind & eagerness on other days; what a treat to look forward to :) We were sad when the series came to its inevitable end. A shame we can not have more ???
Any additional comments?
All in all Raffles is a Top Ten audiobook with so much to keep you entertained and wanting more. An upper cruss toff stealing from his own set. Raffles makes stealing gems a game, a game his rich buddies can afford to unwittingly part take and lose! Definitely Cricket old chap :) It is fun it is intruiging and stands on its own merits as a work of art in book form or
the stage. First rate Acting, Producing and Directing. Everything was put into making these the perfect listening expedience experience. Each set relaxes & sinks you into the story so you almost feel you are really with them in the rooms & just when Raffles has stolen the gems and you hear a voice, you too begin to wonder where you can hide :) nerves bump!
I recommend Raffles if you enjoy subtle humour, intruigue & suspence but not in your face violence. This is a world set in the days of strict hypocritical Victorian manners and morals where even thieves and vagabonds are given manners in Raffles. It is all tongue in cheek fun.

Just as I remembered from a number of years ago when watching TV series of Raffles. Amusing and clever stories. Found actors speech just a little too fast although the spoken word very much in keeping with the time period and left the listener in no doubt of the characters. Enjoyed the series as a change.
