Summary

When the firefighters of Ladder Company 189 pull Clare's friends out of a blazing cafe, she happily comes to their rescue. As a favor to the men, she visits their firehouse kitchen to teach them the finer points of operating their newly donated espresso machine. But more than their coffee turns out to be hot. Somebody's torching cafes around the city, and firefighters are beginning to die in suspicious ways....

Believing the two events are related, Clare investigates, staking out a five-borough bake sale and sniffing out clues in the pizza joints of Brooklyn. When her detective boyfriend, Mike Quinn, is pulled into the fire of a false accusation, Clare is desperate to put out the flames. But will she be able to come to Mike's rescue before someone tries to extinguish her?

Brilliant.

Another brilliant book in the series. Just disappointed that I can't get the entire series on Audible UK because of licencing laws. Can this please be rectified.

Very false voice

Couldn’t stand the overacting voice. Pity as it may be a good book. Only lasted one chapter.

It's heating up

I liked this book but wish the author wouldn't go into so much detail about coffee. I know most of the story takes place in a coffee shop but I listen to the story for the mystery, not a lesson in his to make the perfect coffee, I don't even drink it. I liked the tension between the police and fire department or should I say the cousins, it added drama to the story. I liked how it wasn't just a straight forward murder and even the fires weren't thought of deliberate right from the start. There was a lot going on the, fire department hunting an arsonist, the police investigating a murder and an attack, as well as the DEA ON the trail of a drug dealer, needless to say Clare Cosi barista extraordinaire is there to save the day and still make a perfect cup of coffee. There was a lot more focus on the characters in this book especially detective Mike and despite not wanting to talk about it we learn more him and his family. This is book nine and I missed the book containing the meeting of Clare and Mike's cousin but the author does a good job of explaining a little bit of history and keeping the listener up to date without going into to much detail. Off to find the missing book.
Clare and Madame are off to let an old friend who has something that belongs to them but a delay in the coffee shop means they are still there when a fire breaks out. Clare gets out okay but Madame is trapped and needs to be rescued by a team of fireman. To show there thanks and support of the brave men, Clare offers her coffee and services to help raise funds for fallen fireman and there families but when another coffee shop fire breaks out and one of the brave is killed, Clare decides the best way to help is to prove the fires aren't accidents. Even if it means she has to talk to her boyfriends cousin the fire captain and a man he wants her to stay away from. Can Clare find the reason behind the fires or are the clues going to go up in smoke?
I like the narrator. She has a pleasant voice that she used well, giving the characters there own voice as well as style.
