Summary

From Kerry Wilkinson, the best-selling author of the Jessica Daniel novels, comes a new crime series.

Nicholas Carr disappeared on his 18th birthday and the world has moved on. His girlfriend has gone to university, his friends have got jobs, the police have other things to look into.

But his father, Richard, is still stuck on the three fingers the police dug up from a sodden Manchester wood. What happened to Nicholas on the night he disappeared, and why did he never come home?

Private investigator Andrew Hunter is Nicholas' last hope - but Andrew has his own problems. There's something about his assistant that isn't quite right. Jenny's brilliant but reckless, and he can't figure out what she gets from their working relationship. By the time he figures out who's a danger and who's not, it might all be too late...

Fun and easy story with great narration

I thought I'd give this Mancunian detective story a go & was pleasantly surprised.
The mystery contains enough twists and turns to keep you guessing (but doesn't 'cheat', you COULD guess the end, a sign of a good mystery writer)
Given the sheer volume of crime novels out there, it was good to find interesting characters ('detective' & 'side-kick') who had enough about them to interest & inspire empathy, but who weren't overly weird or troubled just for the sake of it.
The narration is really well done, subtle and clever and (as far as I can tell) damn good Mancs accents!

Not as good as the Jessica Daniels books

Thought I'd give this a go as I really did enjoy the Jessica Daniels novels and have been keeping an eye out for more books and came across this.

I did enjoy it but not as much as her previous books - story was ok and worth a listen but unfortunately not high up on my recommended listens as have read listened to some excellent books lately so maybe a bit harsh but just an ok from me.

Something worth purchasing

What did you like most about Something Wicked?

A story set in my city with three dimensional characters and a strong story

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jenny (Andrew's assistant) stands out from the beginning as unique character. The more I read about her, the more than I wanted to know about her.

He helps bring the strong 3D characters on the page to life.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Little did he know that a finding a missing son would put their lives on the line

Reader Excellent, Story too much of 'him'

The investigator is a drip, a real drip - always worrying about himself, whimpy - a right tosser. His assistant, reckless BUT interesting. The story would drag if it weren't for the reader. Marvelous work. I could actually leave the room with this playing, come back int - and not have to rewind it - BUT pick up without being lost. Maybe other books will be better.
