Summary

Inspector Rebus Book 4

Gregor Jack, MP, well-liked, young, married to the fiery Elizabeth - to the outside world a very public success story. But Jack's carefully nurtured career plans take a tumble after a 'mistake' during a police raid on a notorious Edinburgh brothel. Then Elizabeth disappears, a couple of bodies float into view where they shouldn't, and a lunatic speaks from his asylum...

Initially Rebus is sympathetic to the MP's dilemma - who hasn't occasionally succumbed to temptation? - but with the disappearance of Jack's wife the glamour surrounding the popular young man begins to tarnish. Someone wants to strip Jack naked and Rebus wants to know why...

Not my favourite story

However, as I have said in previous reviews of Rebus books, I enjoy listening to James narrating. He does a superb job. Thank you, James for bring the stories to life. Not all narrators can do this.

Great Story

Liked the story line with the twists and Rebus's own instincts often taking him down the wrong track.

Another Rebus Story

An excellent performance by the narrator. Some of Rankin’s writing is brilliant, but this story has a slightly lack lustre ending - it felt as if it was finished to meet a deadline with a few loose ends left in for a follow up novel.

five star rankin

Having read all the rebus books I thought I'd try them on audible, boy I'm glad I have. This is my third one and the best revisit so far.James MacPherson is just perfect as a narrator. This is one of the earlier rebus novels and what stands out on audible is how much dry humour their is in the book that I don't recall when reading it,I don't know if this is just down to the narration but it came as a pleasant surprise. It just goes to show how good an author Rankin is and what a brilliant creation rebus is

Great story, terrific narrator.

I’ve struggled with novels on audible. I don’t want them to be turned into plays; I want them to feel like the author is telling the story, not the narrator is creating their own story. This was a great Rebus story, and the narrator made it feel like Ian Rankin was telling the story, just the way I would read it. Perfect!

Great story leaves you guessing til the end

What made the experience of listening to Strip Jack the most enjoyable?

The fourth in the Rebus series and the best so far. The story was believable and kept things interesting with lots of subtle twists. Rebus is a very interesting character and his flaws make a nice change from the 'perfect' Jack Reacher.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I quite like DS Brian Holmes, and Gregor Jack one of the key characters was also interesting in the way things developed.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The coffee and scotch discussion in the Supers office were always fun

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

not in one listen but I did get through it in just a couple of days.

Any additional comments?

This is a good series and this was my favourite yet. it is nice to break up the Bosch and Davenport series with something like this that is a little lighter and has a bit more humour to it.
