Publisher's Summary

Under 30,000 feet of water, the exploration rig Leaguer has discovered an oil field larger than Saudi Arabia. The oil is so sweet and pure, nations would go to war for the rights to it.
As the team starts drilling one exploration well after another in their race to claim the sweet crude, a deep rumbling beneath the ocean floor shakes them all to their core. Something has been living in the oil and it's about to give birth to the greatest threat humanity has ever seen.
"The Black" is a techno/horror-thriller that puts the horror and action of movies such as Leviathan and The Thing right into readers' hands. Ocean exploration will never be the same."

Good story despite the perfomance

A bit of a classic creature feature, that is well written, with an interesting premise. The author seemed inspired by 80's sci-fi such as The Thing, Alien and even a bit of Jaws. The whole piece was a flood of nostalgia for a child of the 80's. The negatives were the voice acting from the author. I had difficulty keeping track of characters as there was little effort to distinguish one from another in the reading. The whole thing sounded a bit flat and monotone, which is a real shame. The book seemed too short as well. I wanted more after it was done. Will be listening to the sequel despite these issues as the story was riviting and I have to know what happened next.
